Modeling Equipment for beginners
If your a beginning modeler, you don't need hundreds of dollars worth of fancy modeling stuff. The basic items you need are:
If you have the material above. You should be able to make a decent, beginners model. Use them carefully, especially the ex-acto knife. I've cut myself with it once before and have had many near misses. A three edged triangular blade works better than an ex-acto knife when it comes to shaving off excess plastic, but the razor on the ex-acto can be indispensable. Also, make sure NOT to get a plastic handled razor. They just don't work that well, remember, metal is more durable, stronger and all around better.
Personally, I don't like paint brushes that much in many cases. Of course, you have to put paint on in one way or another. I would recommend that you don't take just any old paintbrushes that are lying around to put in your model set, they tend not to be so good. Also, make sure your brush tips have not feathered out. Obtain brushes with hairs that are all straight and together. Brushes with feathered tips do a terrible job of applying paint to slightly larger surface areas.
You should be able to obtain many of these from your house. Everything else can be bought at your local hobby shop or drug store.
