Merchants alumni game set for July 26


Former members of the West Plains Merchants AAA (varsity) baseball team are invited to participate in the second annual West Plains Merchants American Legion Alumni Baseball Games set for July 26 at Lions-Tedd Gullic Field on Howell Avenue across from West Plains High School.

Two seven inning games are scheduled. The opener will begin at 7 p.m. Members of the alumni team will go against the current AAA Merchants team.

Former players are being asked to call Luke Douglas at 417-274-0500 in order for rosters and positions to be established.

There will be no charge for spectators.


McVicker Family 

Healthcare offers free

 student athlete physicals

Beginning Aug. 1, the McVicker Family Healthcare in Mtn. View will provide free athletic physicals for area student athletes.

According to Clinic Manager Aimee Jarrett, in past years the clinic has offered free physicals only during a specific one- or two-day time period, but now will conducted them from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays any time of year at the clinic at 220 North Elm St.

Appointments are required. Call 417-934-2273.

Athletic physicals are required for all students who plan to participate in any school-sponsored sport. All students will be required to submit a signed consent form and current insurance information from a parent or legal guardian at the time of the physical.-of-charge

WINS BASKETBALL AWARDS – Logan Miller, son of Jeff and Melody Miller, West Plains, recently won three awards at the College of the Ozarks Basketball Camp for fifth through eighth grade students. He took first in the hot shot competition, first in one-on-one competition and was named eighth grade offensive most valuable player. He will be an eighth grader this fall at Howell Valley School.
