Mongolian Banhar Dogs

Livestock

The return of the ancestoral protector of hearth and herd...

This ancient breed of dog has protected Mongol camps since before the time of Chinggis Khaan. Marco Polo wrote about Banhar and even aquired one, wanting to take it back home. He wrote: "They have in this province a large breed of dogs, so fierce and bold that two of them together will attack a lion. Every man who goes on a journey takes with him a couple of these dogs. When a lion appears they have at him with great boldness, and the lion turns on them, but can't touch them for they are very deft at eschewing his blows".

Chonbaatar Khaan started aquiring these dogs to start a kennel here in the United States. Dogs are bought from nomad camps in Tibet, Mongolia, and Nothern China. Now, the Ernak Horde are the proud owners of several of these dogs.
