welcome...
Welcome to our first web
page.
This is a new and challenging experience for us.
We hope to use this little space to make
keeping up
with our goings-on a little easier for family and friends.
Everyone's lives are so busy (ours included) that it is just
too
easy to forget about staying in contact. So, hopefully, this
will
take the guilt off of our end, and place it entirely on the rest of
you. Just kidding.
the replacements...
Well, Jager the dog was enjoying her life with us, but she did not enjoy the poison that she somehow ingested. She also did not survive it. She was turning out to be a very good dog. We were very sad to lose her. But as you know, or don't know we are not people to leave well enough alone. In our need to find a companion and understudy for Bubba Jean, we got two new puppies. Earl and Millie are their names. Now, Bubba is a large dog, not solely because of her breed, but that doesn't matter. She is big, and is a good protector. When Earl and Millie came into our home, I knew they weren't going large dogs, but I was at least hoping for medium. What we appear to have gotten are two slightly- larger-than-lapdog dogs. There is no going back of course. We were all attached to them within seconds of their arrival. I am even forced to admit that they are pretty fun.
do you read me???
Three-fourths of the school year has flown by. Lincoln has been very diligent in his kinder studies which has netted him a few useful skills. Lincoln's new-found abilities are quite impressive. He can count to nine-hundred ninety-nine if prodded properly. He can virtually read anything put in front of him, if he tries. He has been receiving gold stars for his homework. He has also been recieving hugs from the little girls that chase him everyday at recess. (The jury is still out on whether this is a good or a bad thing.) He has so many new friends his mother and I are unable to keep them all straight in the nightly stories. Of course, the list of skills he has amassed doesn't end with just the stars and hugs. The little guy would list all kinds of things as ... more
busy is, as busy does...
Boy have we been busy. In three months we have been to two weddings. I actually cooked prime rib for my dad's wedding. Traveled to Vancouver/C.R.A.P. (Communist Republic At Portland) for Jerry's wedding. During our vacation in March, Phil and I built a deck. Sarah has also been throwing other little handy-man things at me. A new ceiling fan, new chandelier, and various other projects that I have never done before. It has been quite a wild ride for the last few months, but the results are very satisfying.
too much good stuff...
It is official, Lincoln is now five years old. He will not hesitate to tell you all about how refined his likes and dislikes are now that he is older. He is becoming quite the little rock star, and just like a rock star his birthday drew quite a crowd. The birthday party went relatively well, except for the usual. You know, more people than planned always seem to find their way to Lincoln's parties. We are usually over-prepared or under-prepared. Despite the little things that most folks don't notice, I think everyone had a good time. I know that the kids had a good time smashing the pinata. I did make it a little thicker than I needed to. It took a couple blasts from Sarah just to weaken it enough. But in the end, it wasn't the bat that did it in. It was the way in which I rigged it to the string. I attached the string after the fact and I really should have built the string right in. When the string ripped the top out, the impact to the concrete floor in the basement didn't even shatter the thing. We had to stomp it, and it technically still survived a few more hours until Lincoln finished it off.
I have to admit, it was satisfying to see my creation withstand the blind fury of six kids and Sarah. Next time, if there is a next time, I will certainly solve the attachment issue. With that problem solved the pinata could conceivably last for hours with Barry Bonds swinging at it.
