Thundergod's NES Temple began in on Mother's Day 1996, not as an NES site, but as an fan site for the Overpower card game, set up on Geocities. It really had no name, and neither did I. As I searched for a username, I settled on something related to Thor, my favorite Marvel Comics hero, and my favorite character in the card game. Of course, I had to come up with something a little better than that, and figuring that Thor is the Norse god of thunder, so too I became the Thundergod (fitting, really, seeing as how I'm a drummer...). The site then moved to Fortunecity.

The Overpower card game, while fun, didn't really last for long in the market. At some point in 1997, I discovered emulation. It was still a very primitive art back then, but nevertheless it sparked my interest in the classic NES games that I had revered as a child. I went into the basement and dug out my old grey box, dusted it off and true to form it worked as well as the day it was bought. I soon changed my page over to an NES fan site, Thundergod's NES Temple. It included game reviews, and a few ROMs to supplement them, as well as a list of the games I had collected. I began writing two Captain N fanfics, neither of which were ever finished. These were the good old days, back when #nes98 and the NES Nation were still around. (And does anyone still remember my attempt to start up the NES Army?)

1999 brought in quite a few changes, including the renaming of the site to Thundergod's Realm, and moving the site to Xoom.com's servers. The NES Temple became a sub-section, and the rest of the site included music and video reviews, as well as information on games for other platforms, and personal essays (like the now famous "I Hate Wal*Mart" editorial). The site became too big for it's own good, and with the start of college and some other personal issues, the site went on indefinite hiatus. Many were the failed attempts to get started again.

2001 has seen the rebirth of the NES Temple, while cutting out all the other crap that made the site worthless. The site has been moved to my ISP's servers so there are no banners or pop-up ads necessary, and plans are in the way to purchase the NESTemple.com domain next year. I want to thank everyone in the NES community for their support over the past 5 years, as well as all the people who keep coming back here.
