Camp Cullum, 2003

..

Gyrenes,

Fall Drill at Camp Cullum was a great success. Thanks to Boot for setting up the event with the County Parks, etc. It is a first rate site and now home barracks for K/3/23. Mark your calendars for April 17, 2004. Spring Drill will be held that weekend. We will be in the process of converting our "spartan quarters" into a proper Marine Barracks. We've got water, heat, and electricity...all the comforts of the capital ships...at Camp Cullum.

The following Marines stepped up to help make this drill the success it was: Steve Beaver (cook and host), George Harbinson (bayonet drill), Tim Hodge (drill and squad tactics), and Terry Bagley (drill), Joe Johnson and Randy Raper (M1 service rifle).

All who were present contributed to the Gung Ho meeting. A lot was said and Beav will get out the dope on that account. We discussed impression, membership, attendance, and events. I do think a lot was accomplished and aired out.

Read, read, read, your Redbooks before the Spring Drill. We will emphasize marching drill from here on until we get the kinks worked out (especially the Sgt. being stuck in time in the 19th century.)

Paris, IL will be Guadalcanal with a very specialized impression. Regs will be sent out so those who want to attend can get ready. We are excited already about it and are ready to take and defend Henderson Field.

Thanks to George, Steve, and Joe for helping me with the extra grenades needed for that drill. This came as a surprize to the detachment and all did well for a first time. The Japs had better worry, we'll drop hot potatoes all around them, behind them, past them, off them, etc.

By the way, here are three nicknames to remember...Bolo, Bilge Brain, and Hashmark! They know who they are.

Sinc.
