Procedure for Scheduling

Students already attending Southwood:

  1. Homeroom teachers will distribute Curriculum Guides and Registration Sheets.
  2. A video will cover information necessary for registration.
  3. Homeroom teachers will assist students in correctly filling out the registration form in the back of the curriculum guide.  Counselors and administrators will be on hand to answer any questions.
  4. Students will fill out a trial schedule and leave it with the teacher.  If the student fails to return the Registration Sheet, the trial schedule will be used to make the student's schedule.
  5. Students will take the Curriculum Guides and Registration Sheets home and allow their parents/guardians to review the courses they have selected.  The parent/guardian and the student will sign the completed registration form and return it the next day to the homeroom teacher.
  6. The homeroom teacher will fill out the Scantron sheet and turn in both the Scantron sheet and the signed registration form to the appropriate counselor.
Entering 9th Graders:
  1. The freshman counselor will visit the feeder schools and give each student in Southwood's district a Curriculum Guide and a Registration Sheet.  The counselor will explain the procedure for filling out the form.
  2. Students will take the Curriculum Guides and the Registration Sheets home and allow their parents/guardians to review the courses they have selected.  The parent/guardian and the student will sign the completed registration form and return it the next day to his/her middle school counselor who will send the registration sheets to Southwood.
All courses in the curriculum guide will be offered, but online those courses that have sufficient enrollment and a certified teacher will be taught the following year.  Because of the large number of elective courses offered as well as changes in teacher personnel during the summer, it is imperative for students to make alternate selections.  When conflicts occur in the scheduling process during the summer, every effort will be made to contact the student to help resolve the conflict.
