Equipment and Resources

Swan Mission Search and Rescue has the following resources available through its members:

11 members have been trained in avalanche rescue.
 8 members have had steep bank rescue training, and 2 have been through rock rescue training.
 5 members are certified divers and have made both property and body recoveries.
 9 members are certified in cold water ice rescue and also in swift water rescue.
 2 members currently hold EMT status, and 2 are certified trainers of CPR.
11 members are trained on snowmobiles, 6 on waverunners, 4 on ATVs, and 4 on motorcycles.
 7 members have knowledge of underwater camera operations, and boat operations.


Swan Mission Search and Rescue has the following major equipment available for use in our searches, this equipment is also available to other area SAR units (on a loan basis) for emergency use:

2 - Snowmobiles on individual trailers, one snowmobile is equipped with an Orion ambulance sled.

3 - Avalanche transceivers.  These are older single channel Ortovox transceivers.

4 - Avalanche probe poles and shovels for use in conjunction with our snowmobiles.+

5 - Ice rescue suits.

1 - Avon 12' rubber raft on trailer, equipped with a 9.5 hp Suzuki motor.

1 - Sea Swirl 17' I/O boat on trailer.  Boat is equipped for use with underwater camera.

1 - See Sea 1 underwater camera.  Camera is towable and has 200 feet of line.  The camera requires the use of our AC/DC TV with VCR for optimum use, and may also be used with our virtual vision monitor headset.  This camera has been used on 3 successful recoveries of bodies in lake drownings.  It has also been used for searching on river recoveries.

1 - Lowrance X-16 depth finder that has been outfitted to be portable and can be used with internal or external 12V. batteries.  This unit is normally used in our Sea Swirl, but can be used as a portable in the Avon raft.

1 - 1000W generator.

6 - Garmin GPS III GPS units.

2 - Rescue vehicles.  1970 International 3/4 ton 4X4 with medical supplies and other miscellaneous supplies, and a 1990 Suburban with miscellaneous supplies and rope rescue equipment.

1 - Waverunner is usually available during the summer months.  This is a law-loan unit that is generously supplied each year by Penco Power Products in conjunction with Yamaha.

14 Mobile and 11 Handheld radios.
