My name is Saint Charles Cook. I am James Cook’s brother. I am very fond of him, not to mention I have been on every voyage he’s been on. The reason I’m here is because I am here to tell you about his life.

James Cook was born in a Yorkshire village in Marton on October 27,

1728. His first experience at sea was at the age 18 years old. He accomplished being a mathematician in his spare time. He was actually offered a command of his own but refused and joined the royal Navy as a seaman. Later his talents were soon recognized by joining the navy and after two years he was given his own ship, the Pembroke.

He was commanded to chart the waters of the St. Lawrence River in Canada. The work he did was great, so the admiralty recalled him to England and placed him in command of the Endeavour, which meant he had to take scientists with him. He had to take them to the Pacific Ocean for observance Venus.

The ship Endeavour departed in England in 1768. After visiting Tahiti he also discovered New Zealand. He claimed it for Great Britain. In 1770 he

Found the entire East coast of Australia. Finally the Endeavour returned to England in 1771. He now knows he has added significally to Britain’s potential Empire in the Pacific.
