The $5.3 million San Marcos Activity Center opened on Monday, June 30, 1997, with facilities to serve the entire San Marcos community. Well over a thousand residents thronged to the Center in the opening days and have made the Activity Center part of their physical fitness routines since then.

Approved by voters in a 1994 bond election, the Activity Center houses a double gymnasium, a six lane 25-yard lap pool, three racquetball/ handball courts, cardiovascular fitness equipment, aerobics room, arts and crafts room, child day care for participants' children over age 3; 6,000 square feet of meeting/ banquet facilities and a commercial kitchen.

Facilities and Equipment

Multi-Purpose Room Rental (2,000, 4,000 or 6,000 square feet)

Six thousand square feet of meeting rooms are available--either as one large room or three 2,000 square foot meeting areas. Residential, non-residential and commercial rates are available. Rental is also available for the commercial kitchen, as well as tables chairs, audio-visual equipment, and a dance floor.

  • All room rentals include a two hour minimum for resident and non resident users, and a four hour minimum for commercial users.

    Equipment Available:

    Available equipment for rental includes round and rectangular tables, chairs, podium, platforms, and dance floor.

    Audio visual equipment available includes PA systems, televisions, VCRs (VHS format), slide projectors and screens, and overhead projectors.

    Kitchen Rental

    The spacious kitchen is equipped with all stainless steel appliances which include two standard ovens, a convection oven, a six burner range and a grill all under a large exhaust hood. It also contains a commercial-size refrigerator and an ice maker. The facility is completed by a stainless steel counter with a conventional sink, a hand sink and a three compartment deep sink. A loading ramp makes this facility easily accessible to caterers. For more information on catering, contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 512-393-8400.

    Recreational Facilities

    Basketball/ Volleyball

    The huge gymnasium has the capacity of two regular size basketball courts and one collegiate size court and three volleyball courts. Basketballs and volleyballs are available at the front desk. Call the Activity Center at 393-8280 for information about leagues.


    Take a swim in our 25-yard pool! Lap swimming, water aerobics and swimming lessons are offered throughout the week. Please check schedules for updates. Classes are taught by Red Cross instructors using Red Cross guidelines.

    Aerobics Room

    Tone up with us in the Aerobics Room. Both high impact and low impact aerobics are offered to put variety in your daily workout. Qualified instructors lead you in a new way of living and add new dimensions to your workout.

    Racquetball / Handball Courts

    Three state-of-the-art courts with glass back walls are full of action. Racquetball and handball provide excitement, fun and competition. Reservations may be made 48 hours in advance and a maximum of one hour is allotted for play. Only two reservations per day per person are allowed and no consecutive reservations may be made by one person.

    Fitness Equipment

    People over age 12 are invited to use the cardio-vascular fitness equipment available in the corridor adjacent to the swimming pool. Two programmable treadmills, two stair-steppers, and three stationary bicycles allow users to personalize their workouts to meet individual needs.

    Walking Corridor

    This walking area is used for a warm up to other activities or as a complete exercise tool. Each lap equals one-eighth of a mile. Walking programs will be offered in the coming months.

    Arts & Crafts Room

    The Arts and Crafts Room provides a place for children and adults to learn more about art and create new art of their own. Senior citizen arts and crafts courses will also be offered.

    Child Care

    A supervised child care room for children ages 3 and up is available for participants for a fee of $1 per hour per child. Child care is open only during designated times and is limited in the number of children that can be accommodated. Space is available on a first come, first serve basis.
