Holmes/Bates Viewers

Designed originally by Oliver Wendell Holmes, these viewers were perfected by Joseph Bates of Boston into this design produced in the millions. Many different variations are found including those on stands.

Holmes was an avid supporter and wrote several articles for the magazines of the day which helped to promote the popularity of the stereoscope and stereograph.
