Straight Case French Brewster Viewers

Produced from the 1870's and still available in 1940. These were quite common in Europe. Thousands were sold in 1900 at the Paris Exhibition as souvenirs. Woods range from plain mahogany to exotic wood veneers. Adjustment mechanisms range widely as shown, some had no adjustment. Brewster's were the first type of stereoscope available and quite practical for viewing glass and tissue views that the French seemed to enjoy so much. By use of the reflecting mirror flat mount views could be viewed. The cases on these viewers have straight sides.
