From My Window

I spotted a friar's club of eight brown sparrows.

They sat encircling the stone birdbath as late afternoon sunlight rimmed the placid pool. One-by-one, they put aside their chubby dignity, and together they hopped and splashed water skyward, enthralled in baptismal delight.

Startled, they fled too quick for angels, banking towards the deepening shadows of the far fir.

Rippled calm returned to the lavender cloud reflections in the birdbath, and I to my coffee.
