Local Food for Local Families Frequently Asked Questions Please say Thank You! to your neighbors who have helped create the Aberdeen Farmers Market:
How do I become a vendor? Email the Market Manager, or call Guy Koehler at (360) 987-0088. What's this Farmers Market about? Anyone can be a farmer; even Grandma grows beautiful tomatoes out back. Why should Grandma be forced to pay a percentage of gross, a business license, B&O taxes, and all the other fees and taxes that a big business pays? Families are being squeezed dry by a lousy economy, high taxes, and job flight. Every dollar we can leave in a family pocket -- and farmers are families, too -- every dollar is a dollar that can be spent somewhere in the Harbor, on a movie or dinner out, a wonderful cake or cookie from a local baker, or even something indulgent. We will run our market just as professionally as Seattle and Olympia, and we will pay our expenses with a fun, old-fashioned fundraiser. Who's ready for a Summer Harvest Festival, with barbecue, picnic, great music, and square dancing? Why are Farmers doing this? Farmers grow the things we love to eat, that taste good, and we love to create crafts and art with the sweat of our own brow. We want to share those fruits with our neighbors at a price that everyone can afford, and which allows us to have a cup of coffee once in a while, too. What are the rules? The Aberdeen Farmers Market Policy Manual is built on the Guidelines and Rules of the Washington State Farmers Market Association, and the Olympia Farmers Market. In brief, the AFM Rules can be summarized as: 1. Safety first! 2. Our Market opens with the 9am Opening Bell, until the Closing Bell around 1pm. 3. This is a family-friendly market; please help us keep it that way. 4. No discrimination, proselytizing, or campaigning! The Market is a fun place where families of all persuasions are welcome. 5. Please pick up all trash. Most important: Have fun! |
