Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is it completely enclosed in a border?
A: We will be adding dirt berms to make the playground level with the rest of the park, and thus accessible. It was far easier to do it this way than to excavate...

Q: Why didn't you replace the merry-go-round?
A: Because it's so popular, we only wanted to replace it if we could do something cooler. We picked out something, but couldn't afford it in the end.

Q: Why did you take out all the other equipment?
A: Most of it was either unsafe or in failing health. Taking it out leaves more open space.

Q: Why aren't there any benches?
A: We have received a donation for benches, and we will be purchasing them in July.

This is the city's vision for the whole park. Pretty nice, huh!
Note that the playground layout has since changed...

Why are we doing all this? Because our kids matter!

Let's face it, Holt Park needs some help.

It's a lovely park that has served this community well. It's got basketball and tennis courts, big trees, and lots of grass. It hosts thousands of people at the annual Fourth of July picnic and the annual car show.

Isn't it time for this park to serve children, year-round?

We are a modern, growing community--more than 4,000 now, according to the sign!--yet some of our playground equipment is more than 50 years old. Let's bring this great community up to date!

We need to provide safer, more challenging play opportunities for our community's children.

And we need to make the park more accessible to kids who are physically challenged.

It's absolutely essential to engage children early in an active lifestyle.

And we need to provide opportunities for preschool children to develop their self-esteem and social skills early, to challenge themselves and develop confidence.

We need to give our kids something to do, some real alternatives to combat the pull of video games and TV.

Yes, the schools have playgrounds. But those playgrounds are only accessible when school is not in session. And many parents aren't even aware that they can go there. Instead, families are taking their children to play elsewhere, outside of our community.
