Mr. Singleton, Dear Sir,

By request of your Aunt Hannah Wait I now address you.  I saw her on yesterday at the house of my father beside whom she lived for several years.  She requested me to state to you that your Uncle Joseph Wait has been dead for sometime.  That she ? insolvent and she is now in distrysing circumstances having four Grand children left with her without any means of suporting herself or those who look to her for the necesseties of life except her own labour which is entirely in --???-- being herself now in her sixty second year.  Her children have all left her except two who owing to the delicate condition of their health are rather increasing her charge than otherwise.  The children who are now with her are Hannah her youngest daughter and Obediah her youngest son. I believe the Grand children are those of Lemuel whose wife is dead? (or at least the mother of the children is dead).  It may be he is married again of that I am not informed.  The object I now have in --?-- is to ascertain whether or no you could do anything to releive them or no.  I have not seen the old lady very frequently for some years back when she lived in our neeighborhood she was in more prosperous circumstances than at present and it was not without eliciting some feeling from me that she related her sufferings and privations.  She requested me to insist on you doing something for her if it lies in your power and if not you to write immediately informing her of that fact and of your health.  If you will be sure and write upon the recpt of this.  Direct your letter to James Wherry, Fairview, Guernsey County, Ohio.  Mr. Wherry is the son-in-law of the old lady.

Yours truly, Jno Morton
