Building Words - Each student is given various rimes and an assortment of letters (either paper or plastic, magnetic).  Student manipulate the letters to make various words and write them in their reading journals.

Easter Eggs - In each plastic Easter egg I place word tiles that make a sentence.  Students select an egg from the basket and unscramble the word tiles to make a sentence.  Extension: Students can illustrate the sentence (a good comprehension activity).

Yarn center - Give kids yarn they use it to make letters and words. Great for spatial skills.

Stamp a Word - Students take a tub with rubber alphabet stamps, stamp pads, and large sheets of paper to a work area and stamp any words they want to stamp.  Or stamp current spelling words, stamp math problems, stamp other student's names, stamp survival words.

Magnetic Letters - place a selection of magnetic letters on a cookie sheet.  Students can spell their sight words, spelling words, etc.

Sand Tray - Place a thin layer of sand in the bottom of a plastic tub (with a lid).  Students can write their spelling words in the sand.

Airplanes & Clouds - Write the upper case letters on 26 airplane shapes.  Write the lower case letters on 26 clouds.  Students match the airplane and the cloud.  Extension: put the airplanes and clouds in ABC order.
