Groundhog Project 2003 - Our groundhog project started on February 2, 2003. We had to go outside to check if the groundhog could see his shadow. He could not! That should mean that we will have an early spring. - We had 1 snow day this week! It was fun to have a day off of school even if we had to shovel snow. - Our class along with 4 other classes are on the same groundhog team. Here are the other class locations:
We live in a small town in northeastern Wisconsin called Coleman. Our town is located 40 miles north of Green Bay, Wisconsin the home of the Green Bay Packers. Maybe you have seen the Green Bay Packers play on TV. We are about 25 miles east of Lake Michigan. Our town's population is about 800. We have 1 grocery store, a post office, 2 car dealerships, a car wash, several churches, 2 gas stations, a drug store, a bank, several restaurants, a dry cleaners, a library, 2 feed mills, an arcade, an auto parts store, a police station, a fire station, a seasonal canned vegetable processing plant, and the manufacturing plant that makes Patz equipment (used on farms). Many of the people in our community commute to larger cities to work in paper mills, offices and in the medical field. We also have many dairy farms and cash crop farms. We have very different weather in all the seasons. Our winters usually are cold and snowy. In spring it can be rainy with mild temperatures. Although sometimes we can get snow! Our summers have wonderful temperatures just right for swimming and being outside. We do get some very warm temperatures that are up in the high 90s. In fall we have beautiful displays of colored leaves with some warm days and some cooler days. You can find lots of animals in our area: deer, bears, rabbits, coyotes and fox. There are lots of trees and hills where we live. We also have lots of lakes. Many people in the Coleman area live in the country or live on farms. Everyone in our class lives in the country! Our part of the state is a great vacation spot. Many people from larger cities like Milwaukee or Chicago visit our area. At this time of the year we have lots of people snowmobiling and ice fishing. In the summer people enjoy fishing, boating, camping and other outdoor activities.
