Welcome Bulletin Boards:

"Now boarding: The Learning Safari!" Find a safari jeep on clipart and make a big poster to get students ready for the year.

"We're going on a learning safari!"

"Looking forward to a great year!"  include binoculars, a tiger, and a jungle background.

"Swing into a great year!" include a monkey on a vine and a jungle background.

Good work bulletin board: 

"We're WILD about good work!"

"Spotted good work!"

Art Activities:

Play dough snakes.

Paint paper towel tubes brown, cut green palm leaves and attach.  Find a colorful clipart parrot to add to the tree.

Make a snake skin.  Go wild use crayons, glitter, sequins, etc!

Make binoculars out of 2 tissue paper tubes.  Students can decorate their binoculars.

Cooking Activities:

Serve various fruits: bananas, oranges, kiwi, etc.

Make trail mix: use M&Ms, nuts, raisins, etc.  (Remember to check for food allergies.)

Make ants on a log:  celery sticks filled with cream cheese or peanut butter topped with raisins.

Bake animal shaped cookies.

Reading Corner:

Use fabric with animal prints to make pillows.  Drape the ceiling with netting add some dollar store bugs.  Make a palm tree, add green vines (streamers).  Cover book boxes with animal print fabric.  Put paw prints on the walls.  Find calendar pictures of jungle animals or add jungle animal posters.  Add jungle stuffed animals.  Title: "Come into the Reading Hut!"

Ants in Your Pants

Barrel of Monkeys

Students can make their own jungle animal puzzle out of old calendar pictures.  Glue the picture onto tagboard, laminate or cover with clear contact paper, cut into puzzle shape pieces.
