Search Engine Testing Procedure 1. Choose one of the search engines, directories, or metasearch engines with which you have no experience from either of these links: George Mason Univ. List, SearchEngineWatch.com
2. Peruse the Help options if available
3. Using Boolean commands, develop a search string which you think will locate a web page with information about a topic of interest to you (be specific about exactly what you want to find)
4. Enter the syntax of your chosen search string.
5. Analyze the results based on the following criteria (score 0 - 10; 0 = terrible and 10 = outstanding)6. Make sure you write down your search string.Ease of use - how easy was it to figure our how to effectively use the search engine? Accuracy - did your desired information turn up? Speed - how quickly were you able to find the information? Overall - What was the score out of 30?
7. Make some annotations to explain your analysis.
8. Based on this test, would you recommend this search engine? Why/whynot?
9. Be on the lookout for particularly interesting web sites to share with the rest of the participants.
