Pre Season Information

Paperwork needed for participation

All football players will need to turn in the cards listed below to their coaches at the parent meeting. These cards are available in the main office during regular summer hours (7:30 to noon and 12:30 to 3:30). Again, give these cards to the coaches at the meeting and not the office. These cards are your "tickets" to practicing and getting your football equipment.

Seventh Grade Athletes will need to pick up the green colored card. There are three sections to this card. One section requires a doctor's signature. The doctor will sign this card after the student has completed a physical examination. Make an appointment as soon as possible. The other two sections ask that you provide proof of insurance and that the student acknowledges that he/she is familiar with the guidelines found in the athletic handbook. The athletic handbook will not be available until after school starts, so if you wish, you may wait and sign this section after school starts. However, all the other parts of this card must be completed before you receive your equipment.

Eighth Grade Athletes will need to pick up the brown colored card. There are three sections to this card. One section requires your parents' permission. The other two sections ask that you provide proof of insurance and that the student acknowledges the guidelines put forth in the athletic handbook. The athletic handbook will not be available until school starts, so if you wish you may wait and sign this section after school starts. However, all the other parts of this card must be completed before the student athlete receives his equipment.

Note: Eighth grade students who did not participate in athletics last year at OMS will need to follow the seventh grade procedure (see information about the green sheet above) in order to participate. New students to OMS who had physicals last year at their old schools will need to provide evidence of that physical or schedule a new appointment for a physical before they can receive their equipment or practice.
Cleats & equipment you need to provide for yourself

Players should consider purchasing cleats early enough so they can break them in before practice begins; this will likely prevent blisters during the first weeks of practice. Steel cleats are prohibited as are plastic cleats that have twelve or less cleats (baseball shoes or soccer shoes will not be allowed by the referees). Also, when out purchasing those new cleats, purchase an athletic supporter or two.

Mouthpiece

Mouthpieces are required equipment. Mouthpieces will be available at the parent meeting.   You will not be allowed to participate without a mouthpiece. If you lose your mouthpiece, you are responsible to replace it at your own cost.

Chain Gangs

At all home games we need three adults to volunteer their time to do the chains. No experience necessary. You can inform the coaches at the Football Staff - Parents - Player Meeting.

Important Dates

Thursday, Aug. 23 - Football Staff - Parents - Player Meeting 6:00 PM at OMS in the Commons. Bring OMS activities cards and pencil/pen. Guidelines, pracice and game schedules, and team expectations will be discussed.

Friday, Aug. 24 - Equipment Issued & first practice

8:00 AM Eighth grade students weighing 145 lbs or more. 8:30 AM Eighth grade students weighing 144 lbs or less. Short practice will follow equipment handout. Bring your cleats, shorts, T-shirt, and mouthpiece. We'll establish our stretching and conditioning routines as well as begin learning offensive and defensive formations.

9:15 AM Seventh grade students weighing 135 lbs or more. 10:15 AM Seventh grade students weighing 134 lbs or less. Short practice will follow equipment handout. Bring your cleats, shorts, T-shirt and mouthpiece. We'll establish our stretching and conditioning routines as well as begin learning offensive and defensive formations.

**No exceptions for your scheduled times. Come when you are supposed to arrive and wait in line by the doors that go into the multipurpose from the hallway by music. A coach or a manager will take your cards at the door, check you off, and send you in as time permits. Players will want to bring a bag to carry their equipment home with them. The middle school does not provide lockers, and equipment will have to be transported back and forth from school to home. If you cannot make it on the 24th, equipment will be handed out after practice at a later time.

Monday Aug. 27- Practice begins today at 3:00. Practice will be daily @ 3:00 PM for the rest of the season.

Reminder: Lock up valuables in PE Locker or bring them out to practice. Leaving your valuables unattended on the floor in the locker room is risking they will be stolen while you are practicing.
