The Descendants of Richard Wilgus & Electa Nixon



Richard Wilgus, born in New Jersey about 1802, is first found in the 1850 census of Jefferson Co., Ohio. He and most of his family move westward to the central and western states. A son, William marries Jane Wilgus (possibly a first or second cousin) in Owen Co., Indiana. They are in Brown Co., Illinois for a few years, then move on to Macon Co., Missouri where Jane lives only a short time after the birth of her second child. William then marries Susan Wilson, the widow of William Pope, and they have five more children. One of William's brothers, Daniel and wife Angeline Padgett, come to Missouri for a few years, as does a sister, Anna, whose husband was Doctor Smick Hadden.
