Detailing Santa



Special Notes

Please Read

Vector users please duplicate your vector Santa and close original. Convert all layers on the Layer Palette to Raster Layers.
Selection users please duplicate your Santa, and close original.
All users save your Santa in PSP format under a different name then your original Santa.
This is just a guide on how I detailed my Santa. You can use this as a guide to do your Santa or are free to do yours however you like. I really encourage your own creativity. It makes it more your own! :)
Please remember to save often!!!

1.)Highlight your Coat layer on the Layer Palette. Go up to Selections/Select All. Up to Selections/Float. Effects/Texture Effects/Fine Leather. Use these settings. Click ok.



2.) Click on your Retouch Tool . Using these settings below. Make a line on each side to show the arms in Santa's coat. Selections/Select none.



3.)Highlight your Hat Layer on the Layer Palette. Go up to Selections/Select All. Up to Selections/Float. Effects/Texture Effects/Fine Leather. Use same settings as last used. Click ok.

4.)Up on your menu bar go to Colors/Adjust/Brightness/Contrast. For Brightness type in 18. For Contrast type in -22.

5.)Click on your Retouch Tool . Same settings as above. Draw a line on the hat to show it is folded over. Selection/Select none.

6.)On your Layer Palette highlight your Coat Trim Layer. Selections/Select All. Selections/Float. Click on your Retouch Tool . Change the size to 3, all other settings the same as above. Use the tool to draw in some lines to give it some dimension.

7.)Effects/Blur/Motion Blur. For the Angle put in 257. For the Pixels put in 7 and click ok. Selections/Select None. Click on your Selection Tool , using the Rectangle. Draw a square in the fur area you just created. Go up to Edit/Copy. Edit/Paste/As New Image. You can make this little fur tile seamless in your favorite program, but it is not necessary. Minimize for later use in step 11 and 12. Selection/Select None.

8.)Still on your Coat Trim Layer. Selections/Select All. Selection/Float. Right click on the tile below then down to Copy, Left click. Go to your PSP Program and right click again in your work space and Paste as a New Image. Using your Paint Bucket tool . Set your color Palette to Pattern, locate the Fur Pattern I have provided for you. Flood Fill the selection. Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow. Use the same settings as above.



9.)Click on Hat Trim Layer on Layer Palette. Selections/Select All. Selections/Float. Set your color palette to pattern, locate the Curly Fur Pattern you created. Flood fill the selection. Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow same settings as before. Selections/None.
NOTE:You might have to play with the scale and the angle of your pattern to get it to look right.

10.)Click on Hat Ball Layer on Layer Palette. Selections/Select All. Selections/Float. Flood Fill the selection, with the same pattern that was last used. Selections/None. Effects/Geometric Effects/ Wave Use settings below. Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow same settings as before.
NOTE:You might have to play with the scale and the angle of your pattern to get it to look right.



11.)Click on Right Eyebrow Layer on Layer Palette. Selections/Select All. Selections/Float. Flood Fill the selection, with the first pattern that you created. Selections/None. Effects/Geometric Effects/ Wave change to the settings below. Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow same settings as before.
NOTE:You might have to play with the scale and the angle of your pattern to get it to look right.



12.)Repeat step 12 for the Left Eyebrow.

13.)Highlight your Left Boot Layer on the Layer Palette. Click on your Retouch Tool . Switch to Lighten RGB use the default settings. You are going to highlight the boot by starting at the top and working your way towards the toe. Repeat for Right Boot.

14.)Highlight your Left Hand Layer on the Layer Palette. Still using the Retouch Tool with same settings, give the hand a little highlight. Repeat for Right Hand.

15.)Highlight your Mouth Layer on the Layer Palette. Add the same drop shadow as before.

16.)Change your foreground color to #ffffff. Highlight your Eye Layer on the Layer Palette. Create a new Raster Layer, name it Under Eye. Move this layer under the Eye Layer. Using your Paint Brush Tool, same settings as before. Make a dot of white under each eye. So that it is barely showing giving it an underline effect.

17.)With your foreground color still on #ffffff. Highlight your Eye Layer on the Layer Palette. Create a new Raster Layer, name it Eye Highlight. Using your Paint Brush Tool, same settings as before, but change the size to 2. Make a dot on each eye. Effects/Blur/Gaussian Blur. Type in .50 click ok.

18.)Highlight your Beard Layer. Selections/Select All. Selections/Float. Effects/Texture Effects/Blinds use these settings.



19.)Click on your Retouch Tool . Use settings below. Draw some short wiggely lines in the beard area.



20.)Still on the Beard Layer. Click on your Air Brush Tool using settings below spray around the edges and mustache of Santa's Beard. Effects/Blur/Gaussian Blur. Type in 1.50 click ok.



21.)Still on Beard Layer. Effects/Geometric Effects/Wave change to the settings below. I applied the wave twice. Selections/Select None.


22.)Still on Beard Layer. Effects/3D Effects/ Drop Shadow same settings as in step 9.

23.)Highlight your Mustache Layer. Repeat Steps 19-23.

24.)Create a New Raster Layer on top of the Head and between Beard Layer, name it Cheeks. Set your color Pallete to #D16DA1. Click on your Air Brush Tool using settings below, spray a couple cheeks for your Santa. Effects/Blur/Gaussian Blur. Type in 1.50 click ok.



25.)Create a New Raster Layer on top of the Mustache Layer, name it Nose. Set your Foreground Color on your color Palette to #F1CCA7 and your Background Color to #FAE7D4. Using your preset shape with settings below draw out a nose for your Santa.







You are now done with your Santa.
Here is what my finished Detailed Santa looks like.
