Special Notes

Please Read

With this tutorial we will not be converting the layers to Raster Layers until all the pieces of the Tree are completed and you are happy with the placement of each piece.
If it becomes necessary turn off and on your layers on the layer palette to help you work.
If you need to go back and work on a vector layer. Click on the plus sign of the layer you would like to adjust and then click on the name of the shape you would like to work on. You will then need to click on the object selector tool to adjust your vector shape.
If it has been some time since you worked on your vector project. Double click on your vector shape on the layer palette and it will give you the properties that were used to help you continue your work. Give it a try.. Pretty cool huh!!
Please remember to save after each Vector Layer is completed in psp format. Remember this tutorial is only a guide. Your own creativity is totally encouraged. *S*
Lets begin.

1.)Please open up a new image 400 x 400 transparent. Go to your Layer Palette, right click and Add a new Vector Layer, name it Tree. Set your foreground and background color to #5C785D. Using your Preset Shapes Tool draw out an ellipse shape in the center of the new image up towards the top. Remember to leave enough room for a star and trunk. Use these settings for your Preset shapes tool for the entire tutorial. The only thing you will have to change is the shape.

2.)Click on your Object Selector Tool, then node edit. To shape your tree, you need to add some nodes. I added 8 nodes. To add nodes hold down the CTRL key on your Keyboard and place your mouse over the spot you would like to add nodes. Then left click with your mouse.
NOTE:If you are not getting the shape that you want. Right click on the top of the troublesome node. Move your mouse to node type and switch betweeen cusp and symetric to get the shape you want. I have shown you a picture of how I shaped my tree below.

3.)Add a new Vector Layer, name it Tree Trunk. Drag this layer under the tree layer. Set your foreground color to #685016 and background color to #7F5917. Using your Preset Shapes Tool draw out an ellipse shape in the center of the tree for a tree trunk. Click on your Object Selector Tool, then node edit. Shape your trunk. I added no nodes. I have shown you a picture of how I shaped my trunk below.

4.)On your Layer Palette click on your tree layer. Then right click to add a new Vector Layer, name it Left Eye. Set your foreground color to #000000 and your background color to #ffffff. Using your Preset Shapes Tool draw out a small ellipse shape in the center of the tree. Change your background color to #000000. On the same layer use your Preset Shapes Tool again to draw out a smaller ellipse shape in the center of the first ellipse shape you just drew.

5.)Click on your magnifying glass so you can see better for this part. Go to your Layer Palette and click the plus on the Eye Layer. Highlight the top ellipse shape. Click on your Object Selector Tool, . With the nodes that are showing, you can adjust the eye to your liking. When you get the shape you like click inside the tree image but not on the tree. That closes the box around the eye. Go to your Eye Layer on your Layer Palette, right click and then click on duplicate. Highlight your Copy of Left Eye. Right Click and then Click on Rename, type in Right Eye. Click on your Mover Tool, and move the Right Eye to where you want it. Go up to View on your menu bar and then down to View Normal Viewing.

6.)Go to your Layer Palette, make sure you are on your Right Eye Layer. Add a new Vector Layer, name it Mouth. With foreground and background still set at #000000 on your Color Palette using your Preset Shapes Tool , draw out a small ellipse shape in the center of your eyes. draw out a small ellipe shape for the trees mouth.

7.)Go to your Layer Palette, add a new Vector Layer, name it Star. Set your foreground color to #EDB447 and background color to #EDB447. Using your Preset Shapes Tool change the shape to any star shape you like. Draw out your star shape. Positition your star on the top center of the tree. Right click/Quit Node Editing. This is what my tree looks like so far.

8.)You are now done with the Vector part of the tutorial. Make sure you save your original graphic in psp format. Go up to Windows/Duplicate. Close out the original. Rename duplicate and save in psp format as well, make sure you do not name the duplicate the same as the original.

9.)Go to your Layer Palette make sure the facial features are where you want them on your Tree image. Return to your Layer Palette and turn off all layers except for the Left and Right Eye Layers. Click on one of the Eye Layers then Right Click, Convert to Raster Layer. Repeat for the other Eye Layer. Go down to Merge/Merge visible. Add a New Raster Layer, no need to name layer. Set your foreground color to #ffffff on your color Palette. Click on your Paint Brush Tool use these settings below and add a couple dots on each eye. Go up to Effects/Blur/Gaussian Blur, type in .96.

10.) Back to your Layer Palette turn on your Mouth Layer, and Convert to Raster Layer. Right click Merge/Visible. Right click again and rename face. Turn off the Face Layer and turn back on all the other layers.

NOTE: This next step might make it look like we are done but we are not.

17.)Go to your Layer Palette turn on your Face Layer. If you want to add anything to your Tree with the face, now would be a good time to do it, remeber to Add a New Layer for each new added feature. Right Click, Merge/Merge Visible. Save your Tree in PSP formate. Be sure to give this another name then what you are working one. This is what my Tree with a face looks like.

18.)Undo the Merge by using the CTRL and Z button on your keyboard down. Turn off you Face Layer on the Layer Palette. Highlight your Tree Layer. Click on your retouch tool , using these settings. Draw out a couple wavey lines, so it gives the tree some demention. I went over my lines a couple times.

Here is another tree I made using the retouch tool and playing around with the Colors/Adjust/Color Balance.

I hope that you have enjoyed this tutorial. If you have please let me know by going to my guest book on my home page. Kind critisim is also welcome.
This is my own original design. Any similarity to any other graphic or image is purely coincidental. Kuntree Scappin Designs will never charge for any tutorial. I am appauled that tutorial writers are now doing this. They learned for free from others work and now they want to profit off of people that are just learning. It is a total shame.
I would like to Thank___________________for testing my vector tutorial, and my good friend Dee Dee for always taking the time to over look my spelling mistakes.
