ROOT, ROOTS, SHORT
I now that Benjamin E ROOT(S) b 1825 and Mary A SHORT b 1826 lived in Lorain Co. before 1850. They live in Michigan in 1850. I know their dates and places of death and children. Oldest son that I know George ROOT b 1848 in Ohio, Adlbert or Burt ROOT b 1850 also in Ohio. The only other SHORT I know and don't know relationship to Mary in Freeman SHORT. They moved from Lorain Co. to Eaton Co. MI.  Any info will help. Thank you.  Chris Root

WOLCOTT, WINTER
Reuben I. WOLCOTT, his brother, Aaron and their families migrated to Fitchville Twp., Huron Co., OH in 1832 and 1836. respectively. Considerable information is available on Reuben and his family but little seems to be available on the family of Aaron and his wife, Anna WINTER, who had eight children of whom I believe Robert Winter (16 Aug 1839) and Elizabeth M. (8 Dec 1830) are two but I have no proof.  Both families moved to Ruggles Twp. and Aaron is found in Sullivan Twp. in 2850, Other than
Elizabeth, I can not even find where Aaron and his family are buried; Reuben and much of his family are buried in Ruggles.  Any help would be most appreciated.  Russell C. Sage

CROWLEY, DOWNS
I am looking for information on a William E. CROWLEY who was listed on the 1870 census for Grafton Township, family 135.  He moved to Cleveland in time for the 1880 census.  Right next door to him is the listing for a James CROWLEY (relative??)
According to the information that I have, he was married about 1863 to a Mary DOWNS, he arrived in the US in about 1860.
I have been unable to find any information about their marriage in the Cuyahoga County Probate Court site.
Can anyone look up possible information (or already have) about the marriage and the birth of children, Patrick (1864), Mary Ann (1867), Elizabeth (1869) and William E. Jr (1871 in Grafton)?  All the children were born in Ohio according to the 1870 census. Bill Dalton

I am looking for any information about Joseph W. SYKORA, Czech (Bohemian) immigrant who immigrated to the area around 1863.  He was a lawyer in the Cleveland area who may have been involved in an amusement park and several other business ventures in and around Cleveland.  We have land records for the Avon Lake area where he and Josephine FUSRT Sykora raised their

NOON, NOONAN, FAHEY
I'm looking for information on my great grandparents, Patrick FAHY/FAHEY and Anne (NOON/NOONAN) MOON.  I was told by my mother that they were married in the Catholic Church in Oberlin, Ohio.  I  received information that a PATRICK FAHY and an ANNE MOON were married on January 19, 1857 in Lorain County.  Any information  about either PATRICK or ANNE would be greatly appreciated.  I do not know how long they remained in Lorain County after their marriage, but were living in Outagamie County, Wisconsin at the time of their deaths in the early 1900's.  Thanking you in advance for any help you can give me. SHATTUCK
Looking for info on the SHATTUCK family from Brownhelm, Ohio. They members of the Brownhelm Congregational Church. My Grandfather was Arthur J. SHATTUCK 1864-1936. Elyria, Lorain Co area:  I am looking for any information on Henry Alexander STRAN  b. 9 Nov, 1883 Italy; d. 18 Sep, 1958 Elyria.  Married to Emma Jane DUVALL about 1900.  She was born Jan 1882 .  I think she died between 1925 and 1930, possibly in Elyria.  They had two girls:  Lillian b. 1904 and Elsie Mae b. 1906.  Possibly lived in Elyria between the years of 1906 and 1913. Henry and Emma divorced 29 Nov 1913 in Ohio (Lorain Co?).  Henry is listed in the Elyria City Directory from 1920 until his death in 1958.  Does anyone remember Henry STRAN. the photographer?  When did he marry Charlotte M (?) who is buried in Ridge Hill Memorial Park?

Rohamme STORROW.  Born England about 1823. Died in March 15, 1865. Lived in Lorain or Huron Co. She was married to James Myron MERRILL. My GRGrGrandmother Tryphena MERRILL SAXTON  was her daughter. SAXTON, MERRILL
Henry SAXTON died Nov 6, 1879 "on the railroad". I don't know if he worked for one or was killed on the tracks. He was husband of Tryphena MERRILL SAXTON. She died in 1936. The lived in Huron or Lorain Co. Their children were Josie P., Emma and John Henry. I have not seen where any are buried. I would like to order a death record for Henry but need to know where he died. Any

MAVEC and KODRE
 Anton MAVEC, born 1886, emigrated from Austria and arrived in Lorain, Ohio in 1903 and was
naturalized in 1911. His occupation is listed as laborer with the Steel Plant in Lorain.  He married MaryKODRE (Austrian born in 1884) in approximately 1907,and they had five children: Mary, Anton, Anna, and Frank.  This family, at one point, lived at 1690 East 28th Street in Lorain and then moved to 15321 Waterloo Road in Cleveland, Ohio. BRUCKER, BRUCKNER
My query concerns the Brucker and Bruckner family of Lorain County. I am just starting to research this side of my family, so I have little info, so far.  My Grandmother was Dora Brucker (b.1885, Amherst; d.1956 Lorain Co.)  Dora married William H. King of Cleveland.  I am told she was
from a large family, but the only sibling I have a name for is brother George.  Her parents were George W. Brucker (b.1851 Germany; d.1818 Amherst) and Katherine Bruckner (b.1850 Sandusky, Oh; d.1827 Amherst).  Katherine's parents were Peter and Mary Bruckner of Baden Germany.

George W. married Cornelia Jane FREEMAN 3 Nov 1839 in Lorain County, OH.  Cornelia was b. abt 1824 in OH.  I understand there is a Washington GIBSON in the 1840 Russia Twp., Lorain County census, with a wife named Cornelia although I have not see it.  George and Cornelia had the following children:

WHITNEY, SILLOWAY, COLBY
My name is Gary Bettinger and I am looking for any information on my g-g-g-grandmother Lucencey (sp?)nee: WHITNEY SILLAWAY / SILLOWAY. I have a marriage record for Joseph SILLOWAY, dated 9 AUG 1836, Lorain Co, OH. They are on the Larange, Lorain Co. Fed. censuses of 1840 and again in 1850. On the 1850 census, only Joseph and four male children are enumerated. My g-g-grandfather James WHITNEY was 10 yrs old on that census.
I have been unable for sometime now to find out what happened to Lucencey or locate any data on her or her WHITNEY line. Joseph's parents were Aaron and Sarah (Sally nee:COLBY) SILLAWAY and lived in China, Genesse Co., NY. Aaron passed on after 1833 and before 1840 and Sarah was enumerated on the 1850, NY census at the age of 82.

Researching Max JAEGER, born Elyria, c. Oct. 1870.  No parent's names, but  may have had a brother Paul.  Max went to Michigan, worked for CN&NW railroad, married Eleanor MCCARTHY in Norway, MI in 1893.  He died in 1943. He is not shown in 1880 census for OH.  He did not have a SS#.
I was wondering if there might be some old grade school records that might have his name in them?  Do you have any idea of where to begin to search for these?  I live in IL, but if I had some solid leads, it might be worth a trip to OH. Thanks.

My 2GGP, John SULLIVAN and Mary Ann PRINCE, were married 28 Jul 1873 in Elyria, Lorain OH.  I know that they lived in Cleveland 1874-1886 where their children were born:
Mary Ann 1874, John Walter 1877, Charles 1879, Albert 1881, Benjamin 1884, Thomas Edward 1886.
The 1880 census gives their age as 30 and birthplaces as Ireland and England respectively.  I know there were Prince families living in Lorain County at that time, but I cannot discover any relationship to Mary Ann. SADOWSKI, PISARCZYK
I am looking for burial or any other information on SADOWSKI, John  dob unknown but could be abt 1870 in Poland or surrounding area.  Immigration date unkown.  He married Katheryn PISARCZYK year unknow also immigrant from Poland or surrounding area and location and date of marriage unknown.. He resided at 1608 Washington Avenue, Lorain, Lorain County ABT 1922 when my
sister was born and she knew of him and his son living in a tent in the yard.
His wife Katheryn was buried in Mt Calvary Cemetery 7/8/1931.  They raised a family of three daughters, Veronica b ca. 1905, Anna, and Mary b 6/10/1988.  There also was a son whos name was Joseph that may have died from Tuberculosis b and d  unknown. Thanks.

Searching for any information on the following Wellington family:  John H. BOWLBY, b. 1838, d. 1919  married Mary C SAGE (b. 1852) in 1873.
Children:  (found on 1880 and 1900 census) Frank b.1874
              (found on 1880 census) Ethel  b. 1876 or 1877
              (found on 1900 census) E. Ruth b. Nov. 1888
Other information I have lists Ehtelyn and Ruth (not E. Ruth) and no mention of Frank!! Ethelyn married H. B. BASS      Ruth married John BRANSON.
I am seeking any information about this family and their descendants.  John BOWLBY owned a grocery store on E. Main (rt.18) called the Bowlby - Hall grocery.  I would guess he was in business with an inlaw.  John and Mary Bowlby are buried in Greenwood Cemetery. EDSON, WELCH, BOURDO
Seeking information on Elizabeth EDSON born about 11 Feb 1836 in "Black River, Ohio," which I presume is Lorain County.  Her father may have been Nathan EDSON, perhaps the same Nathan EDSON who later was lighthouse keeper at Turtle Island near Toledo.
Elizabeth EDSON eventually married a man named WELCH and had a son named Clarence WELCH about 1860.  After her husband died, Elizabeth married Joseph BOURDO and lived in Toledo.  She died in 1877.  Seeking to find her links, perhaps ties back to the EDSONS who settled in Plymouth at the time of the Pilgrims.  Bob Lawson

BATES, ROOSA
 I am seeking information about my grandparents, Linna and Duane BATES, who lived in Lorain County when I was born in 1951. They lived in Elyria. My uncle Edwin was born 11 July 1914 and died Feb 1975 in Elyria.  My grandmother died in Nov 1971. My grandfather died in 1958 or 1959.  At one time I remember they lived on East Bridge Street.  I think my grandmother's maiden name was ROOSA. While Bates seems to be a Lorain County name, I am unsure of my grandfather's history. My mother's name was Elva. She had a sister named Helen and a brother named Melvin. HARTWIG
If my relative, Adam Hartwig, left the Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties to go to Minnesota, what possible modes of transportation would have been available for him to do that in approximately 1874 or 1875?  He enlisted to serve in the Civil War at Camp Cleveland (Lorain County) from 1863 to 1865.  Then Ifound him in the 1870 Census for Independance, Cuyahoga Co.  He married in 1872 in Cuyahoga Co, Had twins in in 1873 (Independance, Cuyahoga Co), had a boy Adam in November of 1874 (listed as born in Ohio but couldn't find his record in Cuyahoga).  I'm assuming the son was never registered or was delivered "on the trail" but before leaving Ohio.  Where there "trails"
or routes if they left via wagon, ox, etc.?  If anyone would have any information or thoughts on the subject I would surely appreciate them.  Thank You!  Linda.

JACKSON
I am searching for information about a James JACKSON who lived in Amherst, Lorain County, Ohio. His obit appeared in the Oberlin News, 4 August 1881, page 3.
He and his wife Margaret had 9 children and he died 26 June 1887 at the age of 93.

TAFT, ALEXANDER, ESKINS
My Grandfather was Asa Burton TAFT. He was born 25 March 1881,  married in Dover Center which is now Westlake,Ohio on 22 May 1907, and died on 23 May 1966. He was married to Daysie May ESKINS. They had 2 girls, Ona Arvilla Eskins TAFT and Bernadine Eva TAFT.  Ona was the oldest and died in 1999.  She was my Mother.  Asa's Father was Joseph E. TAFT and his Mother was Lucy Arvilla ALEXANDER.  I would like to find out if Joseph's Father was Ruben or Reuben and if he was buried in New York.  I have not as yet been able to find that he was buried there. REISINGER
My gggrandfather Jacob REISINGER emigrated to USA in 1834 and settled in Liverpool Ohio. In 1848 he moved to Columbia township which I believe is in Lorain county. He built a log house on a 63 acre farm. If anyone has info on this family I would enjoy hearing from you.

George GREENE was a life long resident of Lorain County. I'm seeking information on the Rev. Arthur Raymond NICHOLS famly. He was born May 6, 1908 in Cooperstown, Griggs, ND, d. March 14, 1979 In North Olmstead, Cuy., OH, but is buried in Ridgehill Mem. Park, Lorain, OH.

JOHNSON
My Brick wall remains my GGG grandparents  Thomas & Nancy (LANG) JOHNSON.
Almost all data I have on them is from Census records and records
concerning their son Luke S. Johnson. Thomas was born in 1826 in England.
Nancy was born in 1828 in Ohio. The first data I have on them is the 1850
census where the family shows up in Township of Avon, Lorain County, Ohio.
On the 1860 & 1870 census they are in Henrietta Township, Lorain County,
Ohio. In 1870, they are in Township of Caseville, Huron County, Michigan.
They were apparently following  Luke who moved to Caseville in 1874 after
serving in the Company H, 43 Reg't Ohio Infantry during the Civil War. In
an article about Luke published in 1884, it states that Thomas & Nancy are
residing in Lorain, Ohio. I have no information on where Thomas & Nancy are
buried or who were their parents. From what I've been able to make of
census records, Thomas & Nancy's children are as follows:
    * Luke S. Johnson b: Dec 20, 1847 in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio d: Dec 17, 1910 in  Caseville,            Huron County, Michigan
    * Frank S. Johnson b: 1848
