BATES, STAPLES
I am looking for documented proof on the parentage of Daniel
Staples BATES b. 30 Jun
1804 in Bennington Co., VT. Daniel married Rachel OMAN on 15 May
1828 in Clarendon, NY and d. 1 Apr 1896 in Lorain Co., OH.
I believe that Daniel's parents are Thomas BATES and Zilpha STAPLES m.
13 Sep 1799 in Shaftsbury, VT. (I have their marriage record.) This belief
is based on the fact that Daniel's middle name is Staples and also because
I have a marriage record for Thomas J. BATES to Francis SPEARS which lists
Thomas's parents as the above. Based on family history (undocumented),
I believe that Thomas J. is Daniel's younger brother.
I have also been unable to find any birth or death record for Daniel's
father, Thomas. According to an article written by Daniel, his father died
when he was a young boy. I believe this was between 1809 -1810. Thomas
shows up on the 1800 census records for Shaftsbury, VT and Zilpha (spelled
Sylpha) only on the 1810 census for Bennington, VT. The only problem I
have with the census records is that the children don't match up. However,
according to a couple of articles I have, Daniel's older brothers were
"bound out" and Daniel was given away at a young age. I also have an article
that states that Thomas (Daniel's brother) was "deprived of the care of
his parents when quite young, was reared by a family in the Green Mountain
State, with whom he remained until reaching his majority."

BATES,OBITTS, GAYLORD, PARRISH
I have found that Francis BATES and his wife, Maria OBITTS, had
a son Nelson
BATES, born in 1831 in Lorain County. My husband's grandfather,
Nelson A. BATES, was born 1 Mar 1831. but we thought it was in Jefferson
County, NY. However, we have not been able to find any proof of his
birth there and are now wondering if he was the Nelson
born in Lorain County. We know he married Serepta PARRISH (daughter
of Lewis PARRISH and Eda GAYLORD PARRISH) in Wellington, Lorain County
on 17 June 1852 and had a son, Arthur BATES, born in Camden, Lorain County
in 1853. The family moved to Toledo, Black Hawk, Iowa before the second
child, Frank L. BATES, was born in 1856.
(Frank married Dora J. GOTT) Another son, Edgar L. BATES, was born
in Iowa in 1859, followed by the births of daughters Alice and Adah BATES
in 1862 and 1864. The family then returned to Lorain County, where Darwin
Nelson BATES was born in Lagrange in 1869. Another son, William Pitt BATES,
was born there in 1871, and a daughter, Charlotte BATES, was born there
or in Cowley County, KS, where the family finally settled in 1888.
If anyone has any connection to these families or access to the
Lorain County
census reports for these time periods, I would greatly appreciate
hearing from you.

MORRISON, LANG/LONG
I'm looking for a birth certificate for Albert Morrison, born 9/11/1849
in Huntington, Ohio. Apparently the county does not have records back that
far. Can anyone give me any leads as to how I can track one down? Also,
does anyone have any info on the Josiah Lang (Long) family? My gggrandfather
(also Albert Morrison (SR.)) apparently worked for him in 1850 as he is
listed with the Lang family on the Census for that year. Interestingly,
I found my ggrandfather Albert(Jr.) listed that same year, with the correct
mother, Sarah, but in the househould with Robert A. Morrison and 2 other
children, Mariah and James. Hmmm. Even more interesting is that Albert
(SR.) and Robert A. are both the same age
(40) and both from Mass. I'm trying to untangle this
and would appreciate any help that is out there. As long as I'm here...
I'm also looking for a Methodist Minister by the name of Morrison (Mid
to late 1800's or early 1900's), and a Hinsdale Methodist Church, somewhere
in Ohio...

FLOOD
I am searching for my family. My grandfather, Herman Edward (aka
Edward Herman) FLOOD, (7/20/1902 - 10/22/1971), lived in Elyria, Ohio from
approx. 1950, until his death.
His first wife was Julia CONDON, and they had seven children, whom
I am in contact with. However, he re-married around 1950, to Carol,
last name unknown. I know he had three children from that marriage, Laurie,
Kathryn and Terence. Terence FLOOD b. 1953, died in 1967, and I am trying
to locate Laurie FLOOD and Kathryn FLOOD. They would be approximately 36-42
years old now. No information on whether mother Carol is still living.
The family was known to be living in Elyria, OH up to 1975. Does anyone
have any suggestions on how to find them? They are terribly missed from
our family tree. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

LAUBENTHAL, BUSCH
I'm looking for information on family of John Busch and Katherine
Laubenthal.
They should have arrived in Lorain County in 1866. I believe that
they came here to be with relatives of Katherine. I found that a family
of Laubenthal's came to Lorain 17 years earlier. I think that they might
have been her Uncle and Aunt. I also belive that John's relatives arrived
there in 1867. If I'm correct, this would have been his parents (Anton
and Margaretha) and his brothers and sisters (Gertrude, Peter, Rosine,
Nicholas, Anna and Michael). If anyone knows anything about these family's,
please respond. I've been able
to match most of these names as relatives, but I'm not sure on how
they're related.

CARPENTER, DAILY
Seeking information on the family of Andrew S. DAILY b.1806 in NYS
(place unknown, possibly Ontario Co. NY), died aft 1870 (possibly Waverly,
Bremer, IA); married Mariah "Sally" CARPENTER apparently born MA (of Irish
descent), married 8 Apr 1829 in Lorain Co. OH, died after 1870. They apparently
lived in Avon Twp, Lorain, OH, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, OH; Boone, Boone, IL
and Washington Twp., Waverly, Bremer, IA. Armenia eventually married Charles
PIKE and moved to Washington State around 1900. I am looking for parents
of both Andrew S. DAILY and Mariah (Sally) CARPENTER. Possibly Andrew S.
DAILY's parents were Ebenezer & Dorcas DAILEY who lived in Lorain Co.,
OH. This Ebenezer DAILY and family probably lived in 1810 in Ontario Co.
NY. I am lacking any information about the CARPENTERs of Lorain Co. OH
and need proof of the relationship (if any) between Ebenezer and Andrew
S. DAILY. In the 1830 OH federal census index are Ephraim K. CARPENTER
of Avon/Aron Twp, Lorain, OH and Levi CARPENTER of same place. There is
also a Cyrus S. CARPENTER of Elyria, Lorain, OH. Does anyone have any idea
where in MA (if MA is correct) the Lorain Co. OH CARPENTERs came from?
The relationship between these CARPENTERs? I would appreciate ANY help
on any of these families. Since Mariah CARPENTER married Andrew DAILY in
8 Apr 1829 in Lorain Co. OH, it would appear her parents likely would be
living in Lorain Co. or at least close by. Since Ephraim K. CARPENTER and
Levi CARPENTER were living Avon, Lorain, OH in 1830 they seem good candidates
for possible father, brother, uncle of Mariah??? Will share descendants
of this couple through daughter Armenia. Thanks for any hints, no matter
how small on DAILYs or CARPENTERs in Lorain Co., OH. Since this area is
close to Cleveland, Cuyahoga, OH and some members of these families may
have lived there, I would appreciate possible leads there also. I believe
Armenia DAILY b. 1838, daughter of Andrew and Mariah Carpenter DAILY was
born in Cleveland, but she might have been born in Lorain Co.

GARAY, CHERVERKA
I am researching my MOCSNY family who emigrated from Slovakia (then
Austria-Hungary) in the early 1900s and lived the rest of their lives in
Elyria. I have found my great-grandparents were buried in Ridgelawn Cemetary
in the 1930s. Now I am looking for their relatives whose surnames are CHERVENKA
(also spelled Cherbank on 1920 census) and GARAY (also seen as Gary). In
particular, Rose Garay born in 1877, Helen Chervenka born in 1881, and
Louis Chervenka born in 1881, are who I am interested in. Bless you if
you can find any of these or others with their surnames. I'm guessing that
since they were related, Ridgelawn Cemetary would be a safe bet. Thank
you in advance! I wish that I could be there to research in person.

FOLSOM
I am looking for any information my great grandfather William Alton
FOLSOM. I know that he and his wife, Lutitia May, were living in Ridgeville
in 1880 when their son, George Moors FOLSOM, was born. He has been very
elusive in my research. My father Leonard George FOLSOM, never knew his
grandfather, so I am assuming that he died before 1920. William was born
in Chicago in 1853, but have no idea when he came to Ohio. William's father
was Lucious FOLSOM. I have no information about him either other than he
was in Chicago in 1853. I do not know if the whole family came to Ridgeville
or if only William did when he set out on his own. I hope someone can help
me. Thank you, Roy Folsom, 2603 US Rt 2, Cabot, Vt. 05647.

CLARK
In all the sources I have researched I have been unable to locate
the burial site of Perkins Kirkland Clark, ( P. K. Clark) who was born
in Elyria, Ohio on 4-4-1843 and died on 11-28-1921 in Elyria. His second
wife was Julia A. Loomis, (b. 1873) in Grafton, Ohio, (d. 6-25-1935) They
were married on 2-11-1902 in Lorain County I believe. P K's parents were
Lorenzo Clark and Charlotte Blanchard and I think he may have been buried
in a family plot somewhere in Lorain County. Where might that be? Julia
Loomis-Clark was Roman Catholic and buried in Grafton. Where might her
non-Catholic husband have been buried? In all the sources I have researched

PUBLICATIONS REQUEST
Visitors to this LC query page, please be advised that I am seeking
publications/materials/atlases to expand my personal library in the area
of Lorain County and the Western Reserve area. Maybe an older relative
or a neighbor of yours, had some of these sort of things. We can strike
some sort of $ agreement I am sure. Very interested in LC atlases between
1912 - 1965. BTW, anyone is welcome, by pre arrangement, to come and browse
through all my "stuff", IF you are doing genealogy. The down side is that
you will have to abstract any info by hand though as I am currently without
a copy machine. Maybe we've already met when I have done a LC lookup for
you.

ROOT, WOOD, HOLCOMB
My family lines of WOOD, ROOT, and HOLCOMB all seem to intersect
in Ohio. Any help appreciated. None dates and names are: James M. Wood
(b. 1806-1835) married Salinda L. Holcomb (b. 1832-1875). Both, I think,
were born in Ohio. Their children included Nancy Miriam Wood (b. 7-15-1857
in Iowa) who married Charles Franklin Root, born in 1867 in Michigan. I
think these families all intersect in Ohio and then migrate to Michigan,
Iowa, and finally to Nebraska. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

McDONALD
McDONALD of Wellington: I am searching for my brother, birthfather
and grandparents, that I have never met. My brother, Cecil Wellesly McDONALD,
born 4-15-1944 in Cleveland. Father's name, William Edward McDONALD, Jr.,
born in 1921 in Cleveland. Mother's name, Chrystal LEWIS, born 1924 in
Ottawa, Canada. William is the son of William Edward McDONALD Sr., born
in Rankin, PA., and Sarah (BOLTON) McDONALD, born in NewCastle, England.
Sarah may have remarried, as on my mom's marriage application, dated Feb.
1944, it is signed by Mrs. George (Sarah) Wilkinson. William Jr., was in
the Army in 1944. When I was born on 2-15-1946, my parents lived on Stuardavent
St. in Cleveland. William Jr., worked as a steel worker, possibly at Republic
Steel. Cecil may not even know that I exist as my parents were divorced
in 1947. I lived with my mom and we moved to Michigan. Cecil lived with
his dad and I was told by my aunt that they went to live with his parents,
who at that time lived in WELLINGTON, Ohio; in 1946. Anyone with any info
please e-mail me as I have been looking for them for a very long time.
Thanks ahead of time.
