The original cemetery was located further east on Morgan Street,
between Main and Professor Streets, and was moved in 1863. The owners
of the land, which became Westwood, were Henry and Lucia Safford.
The Trustees of the Oberlin Cemetery Association bought 27 ½ acres
for $925.00 in 1863 from them. Many prominent people from Oberlin
College are buried here.
One interesting stone: “Lewis Clarke, March 1815-December
1897. The original George Harris of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s book,
Uncle Tom’s Cabin.”
