picture of Aleeyah

On December 23, 2006 after 9 long months of waiting,Judy was blessed with her first grandchild, a precious little girl named Aleeyah. Early during her daughter's pregnancy, they learned that Aleeyah wouldn't be with them long because of a genetic abnormality called Trisomy-18. Since many Trisomy babies are victims of miscarriage or stillbirth, they knew her presence in their lives was nothing but miraculous and, although painfully difficult, there was still joy in holding her, singing to her, talking to her of heaven during her brief two weeks of life on this earth. The family was called to the hospital on Friday, January 5th to spend their last hours with this beautiful little child. It was late that night that Dee stopped by the hospital on her way home from a gospel sing in Jefferson City. She stayed with them, giving comfort, encouragement and the warmth of friendship until past 1:00am. (If you know Dee, you know what a sacrifice that is for someone who usually is up around 5:00 in the morning every day.) On her way home, the Holy Spirit spoke a song to her heart. The next day, she came back to the hospital and stayed with the family until little Aleeyah had gone home to be with the Lord. She’d written the lyrics to the song on paper and shared them with them. Judy's daughter couldn't even look at them at that time, but knew Dee's heart and her talent and asked that she sing the song at Aleeyah's funeral, which she did. Reverend Gillstrap of the United Pentecostal Church of Columbia was kind enough to create the accompaniment track for Dee's song, now called, "Little One."
