BLACK ICE - SYNOPSIS

by Jaxine Daniels

Jamie MacMaster loves her job as a paramedic for the Seattle Storm. She lives with her twin brother, Jeff, who plays for the team. Where love is concerned, she prefers the status quo. It’s easier and less painful that way. She knows all too well that happily ever after is as tenuous as the next pretty face to come along.

A.J. Charbonneau comes to Seattle with only one mission: to become the starting goalie for the Storm. His father gave up professional hockey to raise a family. A.J. won’t make the same mistake. His career comes first. He is in control of his own destiny.

A.J. and Jeff become friends immediately, throwing A.J. and Jamie together far too often for either’s comfort. Neither will admit what is patently obvious to everyone else.

Their passion erupts unexpectedly and, when sanity returns, each pulls away, rationalizing what has happened. However, that one evening of desire complicates everything.

Jamie even dates Mason Griswald, who’s job as starting goalie is A.J.’s target. However, once she discovers that the man she loves is A.J., not Mason, she feels honor-bound to let Mason down as gently as possible. But Mason will stop at nothing as his hold slips on the two things he considers his: Jamie and his position as starting goalie.

While home for Christmas A.J.’s family helps him see what is really important in his life. He flies back to Seattle and declares his love for Jamie. But Mason won’t give up without a fight, a dirty one, if need be. Within days of A.J. and Jamie’s reunion, Mason kidnaps Jamie in a last, warped attempt to make her love him.

When the Storm management informs Mason that he is to be sent to the minor leagues, his tightly held control slips into violence. He brings A.J. to see Jamie in an ultimate taunting game. As A.J. sits, tied to a chair, Mason’s rage explodes. In a moment of terror and desperation, struggling to breathe from injuries sustained at the hands of the madman, Jamie pushes Mason away. A slip of Mason’s foot leaves him in a broken heap: dead at the bottom of a flight of stairs.

Mason’s hold on Jamie, however, surpasses the grave. Though healing physically, her sparkle is gone and she holds the hurt and tragedy tightly inside. A.J. must find a way to win the final battle with the dead man as he struggles to break through Jamie’s pain.

In her hospital room, A.J. pins desperate hopes on a last plan to reach her. His plan works. The New Year is rung in as A.J. and Jamie talk and cry, wrapping their arms around each other and the future.
