Research

Before listing, research to see if what you want to sell actually sells or has sold on Ebay.

Ebay Fees

Relisting unsold items

http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/unsold-listings.html

If something doesn't sell the first time, relist it ONCE. If it sells that time you will be reimbursed some of the listing fees from the first time around. Don't relist the same item 3 times, instead, click the SELL SIMILAR link to list it a 3 rd time. If you click the revise link instead, you won't be reimbursed any of the fees if it sells again.

Maximize those titles

Descriptive titles get more lookers.

55 characters is enough room for all the info you need. Put in as many keywords in your titles that describe what you are selling. Titles don't have to make sense, they're all about keywords.

Use as many keywords that would fit pertaining to the item you are selling

Descriptions

Describe the item you are selling as if you were describing it to a blind person.

If you are interested in learning HTML to spruce up your listings, I suggest this wonderful tutorial: http://www.draac.com/html.html It is very easy to follow. This website is where I first learned about html!

Picture taking tips

Camerajim is a fellow Ebayer who has a wonderful website devoted to Ebay picture taking tips:

3 rd Party picture hosting

If you use an outside of Ebay photo host like http://www.photobucket.com you can host your pictures there and link them into your auction. This way you can put as many pictures as you want without paying Ebay an extra 15 cents per picture. http://photobucket.com/tutorials/upload_single/up.html is a tutorial for uploading pictures to Photobucket. http://photobucket.com/tutorials/ebay/ebay.html is a tutorial for putting pictures in your Ebay auctions.

Payments from Buyers

Ebay gives buyers 7 days to pay before you can take any action against non-payers. I always send one invoice when an auction ends, I state payment is due in 7 days, if I hear nothing by day 7 I send a reminder invoice, still nothing, then on day 10 I file an unpaid item dispute:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/unpaid-item-process.html

I get at least one nonpayment a month now and most usually pay after I open up the dispute.

Feedback

Feedback is voluntary. There is an ongoing and never ending dispute on the Ebay message boards about who should leave feedback first. In my opinion as a seller, a buyer's job doesn't end when they pay. Feedback is based on the whole transaction and it doesn't end until the buyer is satisfied. Most of my buyers leave feedback upon receipt of their item and I reciprocate. When I first started selling I left feedback upon shipping an item but from experience and reading other's experience I since changed my mind about that. I would have well over 1000 feedback if all buyers left it, but I could care less, I sell to make money and not get feedback.

Shipping Tips

Do you have a digital postal scale? If not, I recommend you get one. You can buy one for under $30 on Ebay! If you have a scale, you will never be off in your shipping, money saving for sure!

Go here http://shop.usps.com/cgi-bin/vsbv/postal_store_non_ssl/home.jsp to order FREE Priority mail supplies!! The post office will deliver them to your door for FREE, saves time and money!

Print your postage online

I print all my postage through Paypal and pay for the postage with my Paypal balance. You can even use Paypal to print postage for items that were paid for by alternate methods.

It is ALWAYS a good idea to ship your items with a Delivery confirmation. DCs will protect you in case a buyer claims they never received an item from you. DCs are free if you print postage through Paypal for Priority and Express and 14 cents for other classes of mail. You save money through Paypal because if you buy them at the post office they cost 50 cents for priority and 60 cents for 1 st class.

Can't get to the post office? No problem! Call your post office and request local pickup. As long as you have at least one Priority package (can have other classes of mail too) they will come to your door and pick them up for free! You have to print your postage online through, whether through Paypal or the USPS.com website. You can request carrier pickup here http://www.usps.com/shipping/carrierpickup/welcome.htm

Best thing of all, no waiting in line at the post office!

Paypal Seller Protection Policy:
http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/policy_spp-outside

To be covered under the Paypal Seller Protection Policy (SPP) you must ship to Paypal confirmed addresses and with tracking (ie. Delivery confirmation, or a signature confirmation if value of item is $250 or more) As a seller, I DON'T follow this policy for items valued less than $50.00. Some sellers only sell to buyers with confirmed addresses but in my experience I haven't had issues with unconfirmed addresses. I have my Paypal account set up to ask me whether or not I want to accept payment from unconfirmed addresses in case someone is trying to purchase a high dollar item. If their address is unconfirmed I deny the payment and require them to confirm or pay another way. It has worked thus far.

I think this is all I have for now. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
