When we strike the chord of the sign of Pisces, we join the company of a class of people who represent the zodiac's grand finale in the sequence of the twelve types. This, the sign of the "fishes," is famed for its prophets and seers. Known as the sign of the mystic, the poet, and dreamer, these people are in the world, yet strangely above it. Pisces is related to religion, reverence, and worship. We find these types enjoying life in the out-of-doors and, as water-sign types; they are restless as the moving sea. They enjoy physical activity, even the gentle act of walking in the open. The higher types of the sign give us our poets and composers for, essentially subjective in quality, they have the power of expressing much of the inner beauty hidden in their souls.

An outstanding characteristic of Pisceans is their ability to contact new ideas from the "no-where" and envision them in their imaginations. They love to see these ideas work to completion in outward form, but are not always the ones to do this work themselves. However, as Pisces is itself the sign of completion, the fact that they often fail to carry through until the end is achieved is a source of worry to them.

The problem of the Piscean is his tendency to dream away the hours without achieving expression of his dreams in the world of actuality. He should objectify his efforts, externalize his visions, otherwise he will not make his mark as a positive force in this world as his sign demands. Imaginative types enjoy the most exalted thoughts, for their dreams are akin to the intuition, which is alone capable of receiving guidance and instruction from higher sources. Pisces people possess great spiritual gifts, and we are attracted to them for this reason. We like them because we receive their inspiration indirectly, as by reflection, and this intrigues us. They radiate an appealing and mysterious power, which is both glamorous and calming in its effects. We shall learn more of this subtle influence as we proceed with the description of the sign, discovering as we go how Pisces reacts to the various phases of everyday life.

Pisces

This sign, the most mysterious and difficult to understand of the twelve, presents a challenge to astrologers, who delight in discussing Scorpio. In fact, a sign that exudes an air of mystery is intriguing, and we cannot be satisfied until we have plumbed its depths. It is extremely important, also, that Scorpio persons should have knowledge of their own innermost characters, for without this understanding, they are in no position to develop their potentialities to the fullest.

The eighth sign is that of the alchemists, those mystics of old whose problem was the transmuting of base metals into gold. Unless Scorpio people have some comprehension of the possibilities contained within their own sun sign, they may not exert the necessary effort to bring out their hidden capacities; for they, like alchemists, may accomplish valuable transformations, given understanding and work.

Eighth-sign people are usually very exacting, acting as natural judges in human affairs. Their standards are high, and to these they demand adherence. When people do not live up to their ideals, Scorpios can be extremely critical. Their problem, then, is to learn to judge less severely and to be more constructive in their criticism. These people are quick and restless. Ruled by the energetic planet Mars, they are fond of movement and of travel. Since they seldom enjoy sedentary occupations, we find them holding positions which demand action.

This sign gives us our most gifted mechanics and inventors. They have magnetic personalities, and are recognized experts in the art of healing. Also, they make good politicians, those rare individuals who, through ideology and a supreme sense of duty, struggle to set the world right. Scorpios are not ones to endure disagreeable behavior in politics without trying to do something about it, for they delight in revealing hidden evils. We have mentioned a few outstanding qualities of the eighth sign and, as we progress, shall learn something of the Scorpio method of handling problems in the light of simple astrology.

Scorpio

Cancer is Nature's most sacred sign, inasmuch as it is closely associated with motherhood and with the home. The fourth sign of the Zodiac is astrologically akin to the very foundation of life, which supreme value, reflecting upon Cancerians, makes them the very salt of the Earth, the basis of life, instinct with intense love of home and family.

These people are naturally conservative. They dislike innovations, dread to make new starts, or to adopt untried methods. This is the sign of memory, a most valued natural gift. Cancerians seldom forget either an injury or, on the other hand, any kindnesses shown to them. Out of their retentiveness comes delight in the study of ancient lore, history, biographies, and antiques. These are our natural book collectors, stamp collectors, and assemblers of historical facts. Wedded to tradition, they delight in retrospection, in recalling pleasant happenings of years ago. They delight in recollected beauty. Family photographs adorn their homes, for they never forget former happy associations. With this penchant for retrospection and their dependable conservatism, these people cherish their present human relationships as the greatest value in life. They are sympathetic and protective, a friend of children and the aged, always considerate and helpful to others. Cancerians love admiration and praise, and we may win their friendship by demonstrating that we do appreciate their fine qualities.

The silvery moon is the ruling orb of this sign, and its phases and positions relative to the earth are tremendously important to Cancerians. New moons, according to ancient lore, have very important meanings to the fourth sign. As we proceed, we shall understand how Cancerians may use lunar forces to good purpose in their lives.
