The eleventh sign of the zodiac is famous for its unique and descriptive qualities, classified astrologically as the sign of individuality itself. Its ruling planet, Uranus, stands for individualized self-hood expressed at a high level. Therefore, when we enter the "Sign of the Water-bearer," we contact an interesting quality. People of Aquarius are different. They are individualistic, positive, creative, often advanced beyond their time. Their ruling planet and lucky star, Uranus, is outstanding in our solar affairs for his original way of conducting himself in our system of planets. His five satellites revolve around their major in an orbit perpendicular to the equator of the planet, rather than from east to west as our moon orbits around the earth. Could it be that Aquarians have a new approach to life, a "vertical" way as opposed to a "horizontal"-of seeing life, i.e., a highly individualized outlook on humanity and its affairs as distinct from the older "race thought" attitude? This idea is indeed food for thought. At least we know that Uranians are definitely not members of the "herd."

Aquarius is the sign of the patient teacher, the one who endeavors to awaken a spark of pure individualism within the hearts of his listeners, perceiving or understanding the requirements of his pupils. Thus they sow mental seeds within the minds of their listeners. They possess great powers of reasoning, and are capable of comprehending the most abstruse subjects and of receiving the most highly technical training. If they are not fortunate enough to obtain this training, they can, through exercise of their own ingenuity, achieve knowledge for themselves by personal endeavor so that they may put it to constructive use in their chosen directions. Many Aquarians are self-made men or women.

These types are number one among our tireless social workers, humanitarians, and teachers. It seems superfluous to mention that this is the sign of universal brotherhood whose objective is the establishment of universal peace. Let us, then, enter upon the various problems which Aquarians may meet in life, those occasioned by the twelve Labors. We can guess that, as Aquarians, they have a very unique way of handling their problems.

Aquarius

The seventh sign of the zodiac presents us with a picture of peace and harmony. Linked with the quality of beauty in both form and color, and ruled by the artistic planet Venus, people born under the dominion of this sign reflect all the lovely characteristics of this lucky star. Librans are peace loving types whose ideal is to express inner beauty through their life-activities and to discover the beautiful in all phases of life. Librans are unhappy when surrounded by ugliness, unless they can spiritually rise above it.

As Librans occupy a central position in the sequence of the signs and are represented by scales or balances, we find them comparing and weighing values, acting as judges in personal matters, and settling controversial questions. Someone has classed the Libra person as a "social solvent" whose very presence in any gathering, even a political meeting, tends to soothe, smooth and adjust difficult situations or controversial questions, bringing harmony into the group.

These types are not fighters, but are essentially peace-makers and conciliators. They excel in debate, but are never argumentative. We feel that intellectual and emotional qualities are balanced in their natures. They are good conversationalists, like Virgos, but are not inclined to criticize or quarrel. As members of a mental sign and akin to the astrological element air, they are not people who relish physical work, but rather enjoy intellectual occupations and the creative arts. Librans are idealists to whom life often brings the beauty and peace they so greatly desire. Their problem is to find some beauty in all circumstances, and to learn to live above outward conditions which may be repugnant to them. Librans can do this by searching for beauty in aspects of nature and people where beauty is not immediately apparent. Let us, then, consider some of the problems which confront natives of this outstanding sign, endeavoring to understand how they can deal with them in the light of simple astrology.

Libra

The third sign, ruled by Mercury, presents us with as cheerful a zodiacal type as exists among the twelve. Gemini persons are always admired and liked, for they are quick, witty, and interesting. The third sign gives the world its fascinating and entertaining people whose sparkling personalities draw universal recognition. This is especially true if the Gemini person lives up to the highest qualities of his sun sign, developing the gifts which Nature has so generously given him.

We think of the sign as related astrologically to the hands and arms of the human body; by the work of their hands we may recognize them. Note the way Geminis gesticulate when talking. Note also that they express themselves through writing, drawing, or instrumental music. These are people gifted in the art of entertaining, for Mercury bestows talent in oratory and acting. It is no wonder, then, that we often find the Gemini person spotlighted as a professional entertainer. He is selected to meet the public when it is necessary to draft a "good mixer."

Inasmuch as this sign is associated, in a traditional and pictorial way, with the twin stars of Castor and Pollux we describe these persons as two-fold, believing them to be very complicated types. They are often divided by conflicting desires within their own being. It is then difficult for Gemini people "to come together" in their own mind or to reach conclusive decisions in life. They will sway from one side of a question to the other, meanwhile losing valuable time. Geminis need focus; need to arrive at a complete understanding of their conflicting qualities, and to exercise a restraining and directing "hand" upon themselves. Comprehension of these opposing forces in their own beings is the first step toward self-mastery. The keyword for Gemini is self-knowledge. Once this is acquired, the magic wand of Mercury prepares them to meet any Herculean labor.
