Size 10 to 18 Glo Bug or Tiemco 2499 Hook White 3/0 or 6/0. Egg Yarn of choosen color. Lead wire sized to match the hook. This is a great pattern in any stream when spawning fish are present. It is especially effective for Coastal Cutthroat and Bull Trout/ Dolly Varden in Washington when salmon are spawning in the fall. Cutthroat usually don't think twice before grabbing this fly in streams and grab it with reckless abandon. |

Tying Steps (Click on Pictures for a bigger image): Step 1: Start the thread just behind the eye of the hook, then tie in a strip of lead wire that should extend to just beyond the 50% point on the hook shank. Step 2: Cut two pieces of egg yarn that are about 3" long each. Bring the thread to the middle of the hook and place the yarn on the thread and tie it down on top of the hook shank. Step 3: Take the other piece of yarn and place it on the thread and then tie it down on bottom of the hook shank. Once both pieces of egg yarn are secured to the hook shank. Wrap the thread in from of the yarn and tie it off at the eye then add head cement. Step 4: The last step is to trim the egg yarn down. First cut the top to the desired length for the size of egg you are imitating. As you cut the yarn rotate your scizors slightly to give the pattern its rounded look. Once the top is finished repeat the same process on the bottom of the hook. |
