This is an inside look at the box that I use the most while fishing mountain /meadow
streams for trout. The left side of this box is general attractor patterns
while the right side is composed of grasshopper patterns. Left Side: Row 1 to 3 (Top): These rows consist of Stimulator patterns in a variety of sizes (8 - 14) and colors. The body colors used include tan, olive, orange, and royal variations. Some of the patterns have flourescent yarn added for visibility. Stimulators work well all season, but seem to work the best in the fall with October Caddis begin making their appearance on the streams around the West. Row 4: This row is filled with mostly Royal Coachman Trude patterns, size 12 to 16 but with a few lime trudes thrown in as well. Row 5: Royal PMXs size 12 - 16, this is my favorite attractor pattern and I have taken more cutthroat on this pattern than anyother dry fly. When in doubt on a mountain stream this is my first choice. Row 6: A variety of differnt attractors in size 12 - 18 including royal wulffs, humpy, H & L variant, and Adams Irresistable. Right Side: Row 1 to 4: BC Hoppers size 6 to 12 in a variety of body color combinations including tan, gray, and yellow for grasshoppers; black for crickets; orange for salmonflies; and olive for Skwala stoneflies. This is a very high floating durable pattern, that is great for fishing with a dropper. |
