Tiemco 200R or comparable hook. Size 8 - 16. 6/0 to 8/0 thread color to match the fly. Dubbed with desired color; the pattern in the picture was dubbed with Spirit River Lite Brite in peacock color. I often use hare's ear, and black, brown and olive squirel dubbing. Marabou color to match fly, wrapped with thread at the base. Pearl crystal flash. Gold or copper bead sized to match the hook. Spirit River Silicone Legs Pumpkin color. Natural wild turkey tail feather Dubbing color to match the body. This is a great stillwater and moving water nymph. It has already produced a good number of cutthroat and rainbows for me and earned a row in my stillwater box. The fly shown is a prince nymph variation of the aggravator nymph. |

Tying Steps (Click on Pictures for a larger image): Step 1: Put the bead on and start the thread just behind it. Step 2: Tie about a 4" strand of pearl crystal flash in and wrap it back just beyond the bend of the hook. Wrap the thread forward to about the bend of the hook and tie in the marabou. Wrap the thread around the base of the marabou like you would with a parachute post about 5 times. This should cause the tail to stand up at a slight angle. Step 3: Dub the body up to about the 70% point. For the prince nymph variation of this fly any type of peacock dubbing or herl can be used; I like Spirit River Peacock Lite Brite. Step 4: Wrap the crystal flash up the shank behind the tail, than use it was a rib in front of the tail. Step 5: Tie in a piece of about 8 wild turkey tail fibers wrapping the thread back of the dubbing a to about the 65% point. Step 6: Tie in two silicone rubber legs that extend about 1/4 of a shank length beyond the bend of the hook. Step 7: Dub the first thorax as to cause the legs to extend back toward the tail at an angle. Pull the turkey fibers over the thorax and tie it off (DON'T CUT THE TURKEY FIBERS YET!!). Step 8: Wrap the thread forward over the turkey fibers, then bring them back toward the rear of the hook and tie the thread over them back to the first thorax. Create a second thorax with silicone legs, in the same manner as the first one. Step 9: Pull the turkey fibers over the thorax and tie them off, cutting the excess. Whip finish and head cement. |
