He is survived by his wife, Donna Watts Weathers of Etowah, AR, his parents Carlon and Martha Ellis Weathers, both of Etowah, one son, Steven Palmer of Etowah, AR; five daughters: Jennifer Foster of Branch, AR. Candice Krigbaum of Driggs, AR, Lori Varnell of Paris, AR, Misty Marcus of Manila, AR, and Deborah Powers of Blytheville, AR, one sister, Carla Turner of Lepanto, AR, one brother, Gary Allen Weathers of Lepanto, AR, and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday Nov 17, at 2:00 PM at Etowah Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Weathers officiating. Burial was held at Garden Point Cemetery in Etowah. Visitation was held Sunday, Nov 16 from 5-8 PM at Wilson Funeral Home in Osceola.

Edna Hodge Jones, 89, of Monette, formally of Osceola, died Thursday, June 23, 2006, at Monette Manor.
Survivors include one son, Ronnie Maloney; one daughter, Billie Johnson, both of Carroll's Corner; five grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was the widow of Bill Jones,
Visitation will be held tonight from 5:30-8 at Roller-Swift Funeral Home.

Otho Houston Russell, 86, of Etowah died in the hospital at Osceola on June 14, 2006. He was of the Pentecostal belief and a World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife Freda May Russell, son James Russell, Sr., daughter Sandra Kay Wiles, brother Spencer Russell, sisters Jewell James and Arlois Williams, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 16 at the Apostolic Light House Church in West Ridge and funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17 with Rev. Charles Wilbanks officiating. Interment was at Garden Point Cemetery. Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto was in charge.

Burton Henry “Buddy” Adams, 75, of Lepanto died Wednesday, May 5, 2004. He was a member of the Etowah Pentecostal Church of God, A WW 11 Marine Veteran, a member of the American Legion and a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Pearline Adams of Lepanto; one son, Buddy Junior Adams of Lepanto; one daughter, Patricia Hendrix of Lepanto; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday , May 7 at 2 pm at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel in Lepanto with the Rev. Huey Meherg officiating. Burial was held at Garden Point Cemetery in Etowah. Visitation was held Thursday May 6 from 5-8 pm at Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto.

Demps Frederick Adams, 62, a retired farmer and WWII Veteran of West Ridge, died Tuesday Aug 5 1969 at Osceola Memorial Hospital.
Services were held at 2 pm on Friday at the Garden
Point Church with burial in Garden Point Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto in charge of arrangements.
Born and reared in Searcy, Mr Adams moved to the West Ridge area in 1937. He was member of the Church of Christ, Willie Lamb Post # 26 and a Veteran of WWII.
He leaves his wife, Mrs Edra Adams, two son, Ben Adams and Freddie Adams of the home, one stepson, Benjamin McCaslen of Fort Hood, TX.; three brothers, John Adams of Lakeside, CA, Chester Adams of Russellville, AK, Charlie Adams of Parson, TN and one sister, Mrs Lucy Duncan, Ft Smith, AR.

Wayne Doyle Adams, 62, of Caraway, died Wednesday January 24, 2001 at his home. A Navy Veteran with 28 years of service, he was a member of the Caraway American Legion and was a Methodist. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Lacy Poag Adams of Caraway’ two daughters, Robin Herriman and Melissa Paxson, both of Osceola, two sons, Mark Poag of Osceola and John Poag of Caraway; one brother, Buddy Adams of Lepanto; amd eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.
Funeral services were held at Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto with Huey Meherg officiating. Burial was held at Garden Point Cemetery at Etowah.
Active pallbearers were Mark Poag, John Poag, David Herriman, Jimmy Harrison, Buddy Adams, Jr, and Ronnie Hurst. Matt Hurst served as an honorary pallbearer.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Thelbert Henry Allison, Jr, 71, of Etowah, died Monday, June 28, 1999 at his residence. He was a member of the Assembly of God in Blytheville.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Allison of Etowah; four daughters, Rebecca Champion of New Orleans, LA., Teresa Martinez of Austin, Tx, and Linda Kirk and Barbara Williams of Etowah; six sons, Gary Allison of Livingston, La., Darrell Allison of New Orleans, Thelbert of Austin, James Stokes of Caraway and Terry Stokes of Roe; two half-brothers of Carthage, MO and Melvin Allison of Gulfport, MS; 32 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto, with Kevin Malcolm officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 until 8. Burial will be in Garden Point Cemetery.

Price Arnold, a WWI veteran in the US Army, died June 6, 1954 at his home in Three Way. He was a farmer.
Mr Arnold, 66, was born Nov 6, 1888 to Rufus King and Annie Overstreet Arnold in Kings Mills, AR near Hardy.
He leaves his wife Bertha Arnold of the home and three daughters, Mrs Thelma Standridge of Russellville, Mrs
Ermajean Chapman of Three Way and Mrs Marie Wilson of West Ridge and several grandchildren.
The funeral was held at Garden Point Church with burial in Garden Point Cemetery.

Larry Duane Bowman, 45 of Garden Point community died March 14, 1997. Born April 4, 1956, he was owner and operator of Bowman Flying Service and AR Agriculture Aviation Asso.
Surviving are his wife Jeanne Bowman of the home; daughter Misty Domny of Lake City, Stacy and Ashley Bowman of the home; his father, Bazil Bowman of Garden Point; one brother Barry Bowman of Marion, one-half sister, Billie Jean Terry of Houston, TX, one-half brother Eddie Hodge of Osceola; one grandson.
Visitation was Friday, March 14, from 7-9 at Roller Swift Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services were at the funeral home at 2 pm with Rev. Larry Bell officiating. Interment was in Garden Point Cemetery.

Gregory Steven Brantley, 31 of Memphis of natural causes Wednesday June 22, 1994 at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

Mr Edford Brewer, 77, of Etowah, died March 10, 2000, at St Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born April 3, 1922, in Mountain View to Ervin and Rettie Brown Brewer, he was a resident of Etowah most of his life and a member of the Etowah Pentecostal Church of God.
Mr Brewer was a retired farm laborer who was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. According to his family he was always available to help others in their times of need.
Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 Monday at the Etowah Pentecostal Church of God, with Rev. Huey Meherg officiating. Burial will follow in Garden Point Cemetery.
The Family received visitors from 4 to 6 pm Sunday at the church. Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville is in charge of arrangements.

Dethrow Brumley, 76, of West Ridge died Thursday April 24, 2003 in St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born Oct. 26, 1926 in Surphur Rock, he was a World War II Army veteran and was a retired service station operator. He was a member of the Carroll’s Corner Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Brumley of the home; one son, Willis E Brumley Sr., of Floral; one daughter, Wilma Adams of Manila; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and a grand daughter.
Funeral serves will be at Carroll Corner Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, with Alvin Wilbanks officiating. Burial will in Garden Point Cemetery at Etowah under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola.

Leland Wallace Carter, 62 of Dyess, died June 17, 1975 in a Veteran’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. Mr Carter was born Nov 25, 1912 in Mississippi.

Gaston Leroy Chapman, 68, of the West Ridge community, died at his home Thursday July 2, 1994. A farmer and welder, he was a member of the Church of Christ, a veteran of WW II and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are his wife, Erma Jean Chapman, of West Ridge, two daughters, Beverly Joy Chapman of Nipoma, Ca, and Sharon Lea Vaughn of Sand Diego; three sisters, Beulah Morgan of West RidgeIlean Bell of Holly Springs, MS. and Fannie Rickles of Ripley Ms; one brother, Tom Chapman of Dumas, MS; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Robert Collins, 79, of Osceola died Thursday, April 4, 2002 at St. Bernard Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was a farm worker and of the Baptist belief.

CRAVEN US Navy WWII III L 01
Roy E. (Punkin) Craven, 32, farmer and manager of Legion Junior baseball team at Lepanto, was killed July 20, 1955 when his crop dusting plane nose-dived a mile and a half from Lepanto.
Born Dec 12, 1922 he was well known in American Legion circles, Mr Craven was a member of the executive board of Willie Lamb Post of Lepanto. He managed semi-pro teams at Lepanto and devoted much of his time to youth work.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Agatha Massey Craven; one brother of Lepanto, and one sister, Mrs Ruth Schwartz of Denver, Colo.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Murphy Funeral Home with burial in Garden Point Cemetery. LNR

Arvis B. L. Dunlap, farmer of Dyess community died in Kennedy Vet Hospital in Memphis Feb 16, 1957 following a stroke. He was 67.
Services were held in the Garden Point church with the Baptist minister from Dyess officiating. Burial was at Garden Point cemetery with Murphy in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Heard Co. GA and was a veteran of WWI. He leaves his son Winifred of Dyess; two daughters, Louella Palmer of Tupelo, MS and Mrs Annie Jones of Dyess; one brother Sam Dunlap of Key West, FL and 8 grandchildren. LNR

Funeral services for Harry Ellis Felts, 87 of Manila will be held at 2 Sunday afternoon at the Manila First Baptist Church with Rev William Pearsey officiating. Burial will follow in Garden Point Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.
Felts died Thursday, Dec 3 1981 at Lane Nursing Home at Caraway. He was a retired farmer, member of the First Baptist Church in Manila and had lived in Manila 30 years, formerly of Keiser.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs Magnolia Felts of the home; one daughter, Mrs Edna Cagle of Luxora; four sons, James V Felts of Paragould, Melton Felts of San Jose, Calif, John E Felts of Walnut Ridge and Martin G Felts of La Porte, Texas; one brother, Joseph W. James Winford (Bunk) Hall 43, farmer and lifelong resident of Lepanto died of a heart attack Dec 7, 1961.
Services were held with Rev Elmer Brown, pastor of the Garden Point Methodist Church officiating assisted by L F Fielder of the Church of Christ. Murphy Funeral Home was in charge and burial was in the church cemetery.
He was born in Lepanto and was veteran of WWII and the Korean War serving in the US Infantry as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of the Lepanto Masonic Lodge, the Lepanto American Legion Post and the Methodist church.

Marion D Hall, Sr., 50 of Osceola died Wednesday July 10, 2002 in his home. A truck driver and an Army veteran, he had earned a bachelor of science degree from a Baptist college in Missouri.
Survivors include his wife Betty Hall of Osceola, two sons, Marion Hall, Jr., of Luxora and Jeffery Hall of Osceola; two daughter Casey Hall of Germantown, MD, and Melinda Sanchez of Blytheville; two brothers, Danny Hall and Tony Hall both of Malver, and nine grandchildren. Claude Chester Hammock, 77, of Jonesboro Rt 1, died Friday April 9 , 1982 at St Bernard’s Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Etowah and a retired janitor for Nettleton High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs Goldie Hammock of the home; one son Tommy Hammock of Dayton, Ohio; a sister Mrs Nellie Huff of Batesville; two half brothers; Tommie Hammock of Moline, Ill and Charles Hammock of Flint, Michigan and a granddaughter.

Francis D Hammond 73, of Osceola died January 17, 2001, at St Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro.
A Marine of WWII, he also served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict, He was a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Mississippi County. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Houston of Osceola, He was preceded in death by his sister, Laura.

Virgil Thomas Horton, Sr. 74, of Etowah, died Frieday Nov 8, 1996 at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis. Mr Horton was born December 22, 1921 in Etowah. He was a member of Etowah Baptist Church, 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner, a life long resident of Etowah, a Veteran of World War II serving in the Air Force and a retired farmer and ginner.
Surviving Mr Horton are his wife: Frances Horton of Etowah; three daughters; Carol Sharp of Lees Summitt, Missouri, Rosetta Catt of West Memphis, and Phyllis Morgan of Piggott; one son; Virgil Thomas Horton, Jr of Mountain Home; one sister, Geneva Barkley of Jonesboro; and fourteen grandchildren.

He was a farmer and of the Baptist belief.

Robert Roy Huffins, 56, of Fisher died Wednesday, Feb 6, 2002 in Ripley, Miss. He was a mechanic and an Army veteran.

W. H. Ingram, 56, well known farmer of West Ridge community, and farm boss for Chapman Dewey farm for more than 25 years died February 2, 1945 of a heart attack.
Funeral services were conducted at Garden Point Church with Rev Claude Harvison officiating. Burial followed in Garden Point Cemetery. Members of the American Legion Post at West Ridge and Lepanto served as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were WR Payne, WH Harris, Edward Tettleton, Mr Bearden, Sydney Smith and GE Davis. Mr. Ingram was a WWI veteran, having served in the marines. He was married to Mrs Gladys Carpenter, December 24, 1928.

Rev. Kenneth E Jackson 56,of Bay, AR died Feb 18, 1994 He served in the USMC, was a graduate of Mid-American Theological Baptist Seminary and served as a Baptist minister for 24 years. Retired from the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department with 35 years service, he was a member of Brinkley Chapel Baptist Church at Athelstan. He was a World War II Army infantry veteran and belonged to Masonic Lodge No. 734. He was also a retired farmer and former owner of a blacksmith shop.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jones of Etowah; one stepdaughter Teresa Jones of Booneville; one sister Ethel Inez Mize of Jackson, Miss.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild and four step grandchildren.

Clarence Eugene McCollum, 32 farmer of the Etowah Community was fatally injured May 1, 1953 when the car he was driving went out of control and smashed into a roadside ditch on Hw 40 one and half miles north of Marked Tree.

James Leslie McCollum, 64, a former lifelong resident of the Etowah community died April 26, 1989 at the Veteran Administration Medical Center in Memphis. He was a Baptist and a retired barber.

Mr. Peyton came from Minnesota at the age of 18 and lived here for 50 years.

Ike Miller (Penny) Smith of San Francisco, Calif, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gus Smith of the Hatcher community, died Sunday, November 5 in
California. He was 45.
Services were held Thursday morning November 10, 1961 in Garden Point Methodist Church with Rev. Elmus Brown, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Garden Point Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Home Marked Tree in charge.

Robert Lee Smith Sr, 58, died Sunday Feb 4, 2001 from injuries sustained from an automobile/train accident in Trumann. Born in Houston, he had lived in Trumann for the past 20 years. He was a carpenter and of the Pentecostal belief.

Pvt. Alvin Walker, only son of WB Walker is among 45 Arkansas dead returned from Manila aboard the Army Transport, Lt Sergeant Morris E Crain, chief of General Depot’s American Graves Registration Division, has announced. Pvt Walker lost his life while serving with the Infantry in the Philippines on Jan 22, 1945.
He volunteered for service in 1943 and received his training at Camp Roberts, CA before going overseas. Participating in the heaviest of the Pacific fighting, he was in the New Guinea campaign.
Funeral services were conducted in the Garden Point Cemetery with Rev Irl Bridenthal, pastor of Lepanto Methodist Church officiated at the services assisted by Rev. Carl Appling of Dyess, with Murphy Funeral Home in charge arrangements.
While attending Misco High School, he was a member of the basketball team.
Besides his parents he is survived by one sister Mrs Ruth Jones of Cooter, MO.

Charles Luther Wildy, 73, died Monday Oct 8, 2001, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Osceola. Born June 29, 1928 in Etowah, he graduated from Osceola High School and attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and farmed from 1952-1986. He served as director of Planters Production Credit Association in Mississippi County from 1964-1986. The Wildys set farming roots in 1913 in Etowah. He was member of the First Lutheran Church in Blytheville, a congregation that his parents helped establish in 1929.
After retiring he help his wife in a new venture -- Wildwood Antiques, Inc. and continued his lifelong interest in planting and growing seed and trees. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during the Korean War from 1950-1952.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Samuel Wildy and Alvina Schnieder Wildy, two brothers and one sister. Mr. Wildy leaves his wife, Ann Katherine Wildy of Etowah; one daughter, Ann Katherine Carpenter of Marion; two brothers, Earl H. Wildy of Leachville and Wilbur C Wildy of Osceola; and two grandchildren, Katherine Ann Carpenter and Laura Pace Carpenter.
Funeral services were conducted at Wildwood with Rev. Terry Coday officiating. Burial followed in Garden Point Cemetery in Etowah.

Herbert Lloyd (Hub) Woodruff longtime resident of the area died Dec 30, 1962 in route to Osceola Memorial Hospital. He was 42.
Services were held in Garden Point Church and burial in the church cemetery with Carl Appling and Rev Stephen officiating. Murphy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Woodruff was born in Althestan on a farm to Mr. and Mrs James Nelson Woodruff, pioneer settler on July 22, 1920. He farmed with his father until he went into service and then returned to the Etowah community. He transferred his farming interest to Rivervale two years ago.
Mr. Woodruff was a veteran of WW II and served on the battleship Pennsylvania and was a member of the American Legion Post of Lepanto. He was a Baptist.
He leaves his wife, the former Hazel Harris, his mother, Mrs Lister Woodruff, four daughters, Catherine Ann, Marilyn Faye, Christine Eve, and Donna Gale, one son, H.L. Woodruff Jr., two sisters, Mrs Dorothy Chism of Hughes, AR and Mrs Edith Bucy of Paris, TN. a brother Kenneth Woodruff of Wyandotte and a half brother, Bennie Jackson of Osceola, AR.

Otho Houston Russell, 86, of Etowah died in the hospital at Osceola on June 14, 2006. He was of the Pentecostal belief and a World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife Freda May Russell, son James Russell, Sr., daughter Sandra Kay Wiles, brother Spencer Russell, sisters Jewell James and Arlois Williams, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Edford Brewer, 77, of Etowah, died March 10, 2000, at St Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born April 3, 1922, in Mountain View to Ervin and Rettie Brown Brewer, he was a resident of Etowah most of his life and a member of the Etowah Pentecostal Church of God.
Mr Brewer was a retired farm laborer who was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. According to his family he was always available to help others in their times of need.
Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 Monday at the Etowah Pentecostal Church of God, with Rev. Huey Meherg officiating. Burial will follow in Garden Point Cemetery. The Family received visitors from 4 to 6 pm Sunday at the church. Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services have been scheduled at Murphy Funeral Home for Sunday a 2 pm with Huey Meherg officiating.
Burial will follow at Garden Point Cemetery.

Thelbert Henry Allison, Jr, 71, of Etowah, died Monday, June 28, 1999 at his residence. He was a member of the Assembly of God in Blytheville.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Allison of Etowah; four daughters, Rebecca Champion of New Orleans, LA., Teresa Martinez of Austin, TX, and Linda Kirk and Barbara Williams of Etowah; six sons, Gary Allison of Livingston, La., Darrell Allison of New Orleans, Thelbert of Austin, James Stokes of Caraway and Terry Stokes of Roe; two half-brothers of Carthage, MO and Melvin Allison of Gulfport, MS; 32 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto, with Kevin Malcolm officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 until 8. Bill Jones, 73, of 3304 West Highway 136, Manila, died Monday, Sept 28, 1998 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Osceola. Retired from the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department with 35 years service, he was a member of Brinkley Chapel Baptist Church at Athelstan. He was a World War II Army infantry veteran and belonged to Masonic Lodge No. 734. He was also a retired farmer and former owner of a blacksmith shop.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jones of Etowah; one stepdaughter Teresa Jones of Booneville; one sister Ethel Inez Mize of Jackson, Miss.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild and four step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon 2 pm at Murphy Funeral Home chapel in Lepanto, with Darey Deaton officiating. Burial will follow in Garden Point

J.W. Matlock, 73 of Lepanto died Saturday, November 23, 1996. A US Army veteran of World War II , Mr Matlock was born Aug 29, 1923 in Wayneboro, TN. He was of the Church of God faith.
He is survived by one son, Robert Matlock of Rivervale, one stepdaughter, Rachel Avery of Blytheville; one sister Ester Mae Reeves of Waynesboro, TN, five grandchildren and four grandchildren and number of nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 25 at 2 pm with Robinson Funeral Home chapel with Rev Huey Meherg with burial in Garden Point Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday Nov 24 from 6-9 at Robinson Funeral Home.

Virgil Thomas Horton, Sr. 74, of Etowah, died Friday Nov 8, 1996 at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis. Mr Horton was born December 22, 1921 in Etowah. He was a member of Etowah Baptist Church, 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner, a life long resident of Etowah, a Veteran of World War II serving in the Air Force and a retired farmer and ginner.
Surviving Mr Horton are his wife: Frances Horton of Etowah; three daughters; Carol Sharp of Lees Summitt, Missouri, Rosetta Catt of West Memphis, and Phyllis Morgan of Piggott; one son; Virgil Thomas Horton, Jr of Mountain Home; one sister, Geneva Barkley of Jonesboro; and fourteen grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 9 at Etowah Baptist Church with Ricky Blackwell as the officiating clergy. Interment was in Garden Point Cemetery.

Kenneth Ellis Curtis, 43, of Lepanto, died Saturday January 28, 1995 in Lafayette, LA. Born at Luxora, he was a carpenter and was a Baptist.

September 24, 1994 at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. He was the owner of Medical Equipment Repair, Inc in Bryant and was a veteran of both the Army and the Air Force. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 2256 in Benton, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Pulaski Heights Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Frances Ragland Orman of the home; one son, Matthew S Orman of Bryant; one daughter, Lana Orman of Heber Springs, three sisters, Frances Adair of Memphis, Sidney Maye Fulgham of Mathison, Miss. Rev. Kenneth E Jackson 56,of Bay, AR died Feb 18, 1994 He served in the USMC, was a graduate of Mid-American Theological Baptist Seminary and served as a Baptist minister for 24 years. He pastored churches in Mississippi, Poinsett, Craig head counties in AR and Soda Springs, Idaho. He was currently pastored of First Baptist of Bay at the time of his death.

James Leslie McCollum, 64, a former lifelong resident of the Etowah community died April 26, 1989 at the Veteran Administration Medical Center in Memphis. He was a Baptist and a retired barber.
McCollum is survived by his wife, Sophia McCollum of the home, one son, Charles, of Etowah, and one stepson, Colin Lewis of Swindon, Wiltshire, England.
Visitation at the funeral home with the family was on Thursday at 6.
Graveside services were Friday in the Garden Point Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Service of Lepanto in charge. Duane Smith officiated.

Herman Jackson Coker, 67 of the Garden Point community died later Wednesday November 23, 1988 at the Baptist Hospital East in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired boilermaker, a veteran of WWII and a Baptist.
He was a member of the Dyess Masonic Lodge, which he served as worshipful master.

Johnnie Kilburn, 23 originally of Etowah, was fatally burned Aug 24, 1969 where the fire destroyed the trailer in which he had been living in Vicksburg, MS.
The young man had recently returned from a tour of duty in the armed forces in Vietnam and was working on the farm operated by his brother Paul Kilburn near Vicksburg, MS.
He was born Aug 20 1947 and reared in the Etowah community, the son of the late Prospo Kilburn. His mother, Mrs Ana K Futrell now resides in Edwardsburg, MI.
In add to his mother he leaves two sisters, Mrs
Pauline Dean of CA and Mrs Maxine Reed of Edwardsburg, MI., three brothers, Joe Kilburn of Elkhart, In and Ulas Eugene Kilburn of Cassapolis, MI.
Funeral services were held 2 pm on Tuesday Aug 26 in the Lepanto Baptist Church. Burial was in Garden Point Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Demps Frederick Adams, 62, a retired farmer and WWII Veteran of West Ridge, died Tuesday Aug 5 1969 at Osceola Memorial Hospital.
Services were held at 2 pm on Friday at the Garden
Point Church with burial in Garden Point Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto in charge of arrangements.
Born and reared in Searcy, Mr Adams moved to the West Ridge area in 1937. He was member of the Church of Christ, Willie Lamb Post # 26 and a Veteran of WWII.
He leaves his wife, Mrs Edra Adams, two son, Ben Adams and Freddie Adams of the home, one stepson, Benjamin McCaslen of Fort Hood, TX.; three brothers, John Adams of Lakeside, CA, Chester Adams of Russellville, AK, Charlie Adams of Parson, TN and one sister, Mrs Lucy Duncan, Ft Smith, AR.

William (Bill) Thomas Hector, 80, longtime resident and retired clerk died Saturday, June 28, 1969 at the Melody Nursing Home where he had resided for a few months.
Born in Osceola, Mr Hector was a resident of Arkansas except for the time spent in WWI. He was a Baptist and had lived in Lepanto for the past 18 years having moved from Turrell.
Services were held at 2 pm on Monday Jun 30 at the
Lepanto Baptist Church with Rev. John Colbert, Jr pastor, conducting the services.
Burial was in Garden Point Cemetery with Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis in charge of arrangements.
He leaves four sons, Larry Hector and Donald Hector both of Grand Rapid, MI, David Hector and Curtiss Hector of Lepanto; four daughters, Mrs Mary Forbes of West Memphis, Mrs Helen Hector and Miss Cynthia Hector, both of Lepanto; a sister Mrs Hattie Applebee of Manila.

Rosswell Mallory Johnson, 93 died Dec 5 1968 in the Little River community. Born Nov 19 1875 in Grenada, MS, to John D and Alice Coley Johnson, he was a WWI veteran.
His wife Virginia Alberta Cannon Johnson predeceased him.
He leaves six sons J. B. Johnson, Roy. C Johnson, Claris Adams Johnson, Paul Johnson, Woodrow Johnson and Wm Earl Johnson, and six daughters; Virgie Dell Stubbs, Rena Bell Kennedy, Esell Groeteke,
Ervin Stubbs, Clemie Creecy, and Ruby May Admire. Buried in Garden Point Cemetery.

Olan G. Scasbrick, WWI veteran, 69, who lived with his daughter, Mrs. Nell Smith of Lepanto, died Tuesday, Apr 23, 1968 at the Kennedy Veterans Memorial in Memphis.
Services were held at the Garden Point Church with Bro Huey Meherg officiating. Burial was in Garden Point Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Home.
He was born in Green County, AR and was a Baptist.

Mr. Stokes was born in Fulton, MS and spent the greater part of his life in the Etowah community.

Herbert Lloyd (Hub) Woodruff longtime resident of the area died Dec 30, 1962 in route to Osceola Memorial Hospital. He was 42.
Services were held in Garden Point Church and burial in the church cemetery with Rev. Carl Appling and Rev Stephen officiating. Murphy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Woodruff was born in Althestan on a farm to Mr and Mrs James Nelson Woodruff, pioneer settler on July 22, 1920. He farmed with his father until he went into service and then returned to the Etowah community. He transferred his farming interest to Rivervale two years ago.
Mr. Woodruff was a veteran of WW II and served on the battleship Pennsylvania and was a member of the American Legion Post of Lepanto. He was a Baptist.
He leaves his wife, the former Hazel Harris, his mother, Mrs Lister Woodruff, four daughters, Catherine Ann, Marilyn Faye, Christine Eve, and Donna Gale, one son, H.L. Woodruff Jr., two sisters, Mrs Dorothy Chism of Hughes, AR and Mrs Edith Bucy of Paris, TN. a brother Kenneth Woodruff of Wyandotte and a half brother, Bennie Jackson of Osceola, AR.

He was born in Lepanto and was veteran of WWII and the Korean War serving in the US Infantry as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of the Lepanto Masonic Lodge, the Lepanto American Legion Post and the Methodist church.

Finley G. Smith, lifelong resident and farm of the Hatcher community and former chief of police at Marked Tree for six years, died in Kennedy Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Aug 7, 1961. He was 47.
Services were held Wednesday, 2 pm in Garden Point Methodist Church with Murphy Funeral Service in charge. Burial followed in Garden Point Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in the Hatcher community of pioneer settlers, Mr and Mrs. Ross Smith. He was a Baptist and a member of the American Legion.
During WWII he served with the United States Navy.
Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Smith of the Hatcher community; he leaves one brother; Fred Smith of Wilson, AR, three sons; Jimmy Ross Smith, Chicago, Ill, Fred Wayne Smith and Finley Smith, Jr. both of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Mrs. Ann Weiting, Seattle, Wash and Mrs. Virginia Ackers, Detroit, MI and six grandchildren.

John Wess Stokes, 54, lifelong resident and farmer of the Etowah community died in Osceola Memorial Hospital October 18, 1960 after suffering a stroke. He was ill less than a day. Mr. Stokes was born Nov 30, 1905 and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Service and burial were in the Garden Point Cemetery with Rev. Carl Appling, Baptist Minister, officiating with Murphy Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stokes, son of Charles Stokes and Sally Ann Russell Stokes was born and reared in Etowah. He owned the land which he farmed.

Roy E. (Punkin) Craven, 32, farmer and manager of Legion Junior baseball team at Lepanto, was killed July 20, 1955 when his crop dusting plane nose-dived a mile and a half from Lepanto.
Born Dec 12, 1922 he was well known in American Legion circles, Mr Craven was a member of the executive board of Willie Lamb Post of Lepanto. He managed semi-pro teams at Lepanto and devoted much of his time to youth work.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Agatha Massey Craven; one brother of Lepanto, and one sister, Mrs Ruth Schwartz of Denver, Colo.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Murphy Funeral Home with burial in Garden Point Cemetery.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Louise McCollum; two step children, David and Jim; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McCollum; two brothers, Cecil of Etowah and James McCollum, of St Louis MO.

Survived by his father JA Erwin and step mother, he also leaves three half-brothers, Erney of Delta, Mo, Lewis of Egypt, AR and Seward of Lepanto; three sisters, Mrs. Mable Jarrel of Memphis, Mrs. Alice Clay of Marked Tree and Mrs. Ethel Posher of Lepanto.

W. H. Ingram, 56, well known farmer of West Ridge community, and farm boss for Chapman Dewey farm for more than 25 years died February 2, 1945 of a heart attack. Funeral services were conducted at Garden Point Church with Rev Claude Harvison officiating. Burial followed in Garden Point Cemetery. Members of the American Legion Post at West Ridge and Lepanto served as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were WR Payne, WH Harris, Edward Tettleton, Mr. Bearden, Sydney Smith and GE Davis. A song service was conducted by AH Diggs and Joe Hutto with the Missco faculty.
Mr. Ingram was a WWI veteran, having served in the marines. He was married to Mrs Gladys Carpenter, December 24, 1928. Surviving are his wife, Gladys; three children; Mildred, Lynn and Neal; two stepsons; Leon and Dale Carpenter; three brothers Joe Ingram of Gideon, MO, Sam Ingram of Blytheville; two sisters Mrs. Ella Alexander of Blytheville, and Mrs. Bonnie DuPriest of North Little Rock. Pvt. Alvin Walker, only son of WB Walker is among 45 Arkansas dead returned from Manila in May of 1948 aboard the Army Transport, Lt Sergeant Morris E Crain, chief of General Depot’s American Graves Registration Division, has announced. Pvt Walker lost his life while serving with the Infantry in the Philippines on Jan 22, 1945.
He volunteered for service in 1943 and received his training at Camp Roberts, CA before going overseas. Participating in the heaviest of the Pacific fighting, he was in the New Guinea campaign.
Funeral services were conducted in the Garden Point Cemetery with Rev Irl Bridenthal, pastor of Lepanto Methodist Church officiated at the services assisted by Rev. Carl Appling of Dyess, with Murphy Funeral Home in charge arrangements.
While attending Misco High School, he was a member of the basketball team. Besides his parents he is survived by one sister Mrs Ruth Jones of Cooter, MO.

Pvt First Class Noel L (Jack) Cline, was killed in action while serving with the Infantry in Belgium on Sep 13 1944. Pfc Cline was 22 at the time of his death. He was reburied April 3, 1949 in Garden Point Cemetery.
L H Fielder conducted the service with Murphy Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Members of the Willie Lamb Post No 26 of the American Legion Rifle Squad performed the last military rites.
Born in the Jernigan community about three miles from Lepanto, he went entered the service Nov 21 1942 and was shipped overseas Mar 13 1944 and went out with the invasion troops on D-Day in France.
Pfc Cline leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs George Cline; one brother, JW Cline of Lepanto, four sisters, Mrs Viola Wilson of Weona, Christine McClure of Lepanto and Mary Ellen and Glendora Cline. Another sister Lorine Bell Cline was killed in an automobile accident Jul 17 1948 as Mr. Cline was making arrangements for his son’s reburial.

Funeral services were held for Ralph Arthur Peyton, 68, a farmer in the Etowah community who died at his home October 25, 1940. He was a veteran of WW I.
Services were conducted in the Garden Point Church with Rev. JM Barrentine officiating with burial in the Garden Point Cemetery.
Mr. Peyton came from Minnesota at the age of 18 and lived here for 50 years.
He leaves eight sons; Arthur, Ottie, Lonnie, William all of Etowah, Roy, Sam, and Cliff live in the Milligan Ridge area and one son, Amos is in the Armed Forces.
Travis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. J.L. Holleman, age 74, retired physician and farmer of Mississippi county died at his home in the Red Line community northeast of Lepanto. November 19, 1939 following an illness which culminated in a heart attack.
Burial services and interment were held in the Garden Point cemetery Tuesday with Langford Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Holleman was a native of Boston, Massachusetts, later moving to North Carolina. He received his medical degree from the University before moving into the Red Line community in 1917. He was a Spanish American veteran and will be remembered for his many charitable deeds and free medical service that he gave to those in his area unable to pay.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Mattie Holleman, two sons; Fernando and Carlos and a stepdaughter, Miss Cora Holleman, survive him. Lepanto News Record
