The Swindle this writing is about - the truly Great Swindle of all time - is the one by which we cheat ourselves out of the better part of life, and who and what we are as living beings.
We do it to ourselves as individuals.
And we do it to ourselves as a society and a culture.
This writing can be of relevance and value for everyone.
But not everyone will see this.
Because there is a swindle going on - The Great Swindle.
The very Swindle this writing is about will stop some people from even reading this. The discomfort some feel in even having to think about the subject matter of this writing will prevent them from going much beyond this introduction.
And this circumstance is truly Swindlous (as well as often seemingly either tragic or comic - or both).
Those who refuse to even read a writing such as this, because they find discomfort in its content, are among those who could most benefit from its message.
Although the Great Swindle has ensnared each and every one of us to one extent or another, the primary thrust of this particular writing is directed at those of us whose 'rationality' has been a significant element in bringing about that ensnarement. Its primary purpose is to assist the rational mind in allowing itself to accept the non-rational ('spiritual') aspect of existence, in all its fullness, without having to deny or even embarrass that rationality.
The non-rational ('spiritual') aspect of existence is very real. Indeed, in the most fundamental sense, it is more REAL than the rational aspect.
To fail to acknowledge this reality, and to attune oneself with the spiritual quality of existence in one's daily and intimately personal life and being, is the height of ir rationality.
It is the hope and purpose of this writing to help the rational mind to be able to BELIEVE this.It is possible to be fully at one with the spiritual, non-rational fundament of existence, and be fully rational in so doing.
To fail to do this (whether allowing one's educated rationality, or one's uneducated irrationality, to be the mechanism of justification for that failure) is a Swindle.
