BOOKS
There are thousands of books on dog training, of these, there may be less then fifty that are really worth reading and from that maybe fifteen or twenty books which you would want as reference. While writing a book takes dedication, some books really weren't worth all the effort. While it might seem that anything of pertinent value has already be written, there still wouldn't be a shortage of new books this year, or the years to come. I've even seen where an author added his own title to a technique invented more then a decade ago and the entire book was centered on that one technique and it still managed to sell copies
The material which does grabs my interest, are the research papers, with topics on scent, scent discrimination or tracking. At first, before the internet became the maga source of information, it was almost impossible to get a hold of the material unless you resided close to a major university. Now, its only a short click away. By starting with the reference notations at the end of the book or an article, such as, Analysis of problems connected with the use and keeping of police dogs in 1998, and pasting the entire sentence into Google search box, chances are you will find it posted somewhere on the internet or know where you can find the book.
While the first novel in this list is not actually training material, it is very good reference. It's by Prof. Samuel Chapman, who examines the concepts for establishing and maintaining police K9 units in the United States, what it takes and why they failed.
