Since the interior was out to repair the floor, all the chrome and door glass, and trim was removed so BOB could get new paint.
When I say all, I mean everything. Front and rear bumpers, sweep trim, ventiports, door handles, trunk emblem, gas filler guard, door glass trim and vent windows, hood and head light trim, tail lights, turn signals, everything! We even removed the door latches from the body. She was stripped!
Once again we found an older retired gentleman, that had worked for General Motors at the Arlington Texas plant. He also had a body shop, that he had handed down to his son. He still had a big work shop that he did his projects in, at his own pace. He agreed to take our Buick as his next project. She was to be painted her original colors, Seminole Red and Dover white, base coat / clear coat. Since the roof had been done he was going to mask it off.
When we dropped the car off we asked about how long the job would take. He said it would take about a month, but we could drop in anytime to check the progress.
The first time we stopped back, a week later he had sanded the entire car down, and removed the trunk lid. It needed a patch where some rust was coming through. He used fiber glass to patch it but said it would be better if we could find another trunk lid without the rust issue. As he said, rust never sleeps and the only way to end it was to cut it out and replace the steel. We were unable to find a trunk lid in the allotted time so that one was used. I am still looking for a replacement trunk lid if you know where there is one. Since we had the bumpers and grill off he sprayed the radiator support and adjusted all of the door, hood and fender gaps. We did not have the camera that trip
A week after that, when we stopped he had finished the red sweep area and inside the doors where it was red. He had the trunk lid back on and was making good progress. We made sure to take the camera that time so here are a few pictures. You can click on them for a larger size and use your back button to return here.
It was a month to the day when everything was painted and buffed out. Here are a few pictures. You can click on them for a larger size and use your back button to return here.
