Our 1956 Buick Super Riviera Hardtop, Model 53

The Interior Gets Replaced

After we took our Buick to the paint shop, I took the seats and Door panels to the man that was going to do the interior. The seats he could work with, but the door panels were too far gone. He needed the car in his shop for a few days to cut and fit new panels that could then be covered. Since we had no seats, windows or tail lights the Man that painted BOB offered to trailer her out to the shop for the door panel fitting for us, at no additional cost.

Originally BOB had a red vinyl and black cloth interior, with black carpet. We wanted to "Dress Her Up" so we decided on red and white vinyl and red carpet.

The man that did the interior worked in his workshop next to his home and needed the car for a week to cut and fit the door panels. He also had to cut out for the power window switches and handles. I went back a week later with the tail lights, turn signal lights and a box to sit on to drive her home. I installed the lights and since the glass, door handles, and latches were off, we secured the doors, I sat on the box and off I went! While he was working on the rest of the interior, I replaced the windows with new glass, door handles and locks, installed new speakers under the rear deck and a few other things.

When we took the car back for him to finnish, this is what awaited us. You can click on the pictures for a larger version, then use your back button to return to this page.

He did an excellent job. When I took the car back after completing what I had to do, he had the car two more weeks. He installed the carpet, seats, door panels, new package tray, and the new wind lace that he made. We could not have been happier with the completed interior or the service he provided.
