Obituary
A. J. McKnight, son of James McKnight and wife, was born March
10, 1845 and departed this life July 26, 1925 at the age of 80
years, 4 months and 16 days.
He was born in Jefferson County, near Knoxville, Tennessee and was the last of a family of fifteen children to depart this life. He served in Company C, ninth regiment, Tennessee Cavalry in the Civil War, when but a boy. He did not take part in the war until the rebels tried to take him captive. He hid away until he could enlist with the union soldiers and served as a private until his honorable discharge, September 11, 1865. He served three years in the army.
October 6, 1864 he was married to Miss Sarah Ellen Mount, of Sevier County, Tennessee, at the home of the bride's parents. To this union nine children were born--five boys and four girls. Three boys and three girls and his wife have preceded him to the better land--his wife having died May 14, 1923.
He leaves to mourn his departure three children, all of the Braymer Community--they are S.H. and J.T. McKnight and Mrs. Sarah Frances Phillips. Also fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He came to Missouri with his wife and three children. They Spent a short time in Ray County and later moved to Caldwell County, near Braymer, where he spent the remainder of his life. He died at his home three miles south of Braymer. Walter Mason and wife have lived with him the last year or so.
He united with the Methodist Church in early life and lived a faithful member until the end of his life. In the earlier years of his Christian life he was an active worker in the Sunday School, having served as superintendent for several years. He was well posted in the Bible and found great pleasure in reading it. A little while before his death he was heard saying something, and asked if he wanted anything he said, "No, I was just talking to my Lord."
He was a kind and loving father, a good neighbor, sociable, accommodating, a staunch citizen and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His battle is fought, the victory won. Rest well dear father, thy work is done.

A. J. McKnight Dead
A. J. McKnight, one of the old settlers of this community died at his home, about 3 miles south of Braymer Monday. Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.
At the time of his death he was a little over four months past 80 years old and had lived many years on the farm where he died.
He was a soldier in the Civil War and his death takes one more of the G. A. R. veterans from the rapidly thinning ranks of that great organization.
The funeral took place this afternoon at the Methodist Church. The services were conducted by Rev. W. B. Christy.

Death of Mrs. A. J. McKnight - Sarah Ellen (Mount) McKnight
After weeks of suffering Mrs. A. J. McKnight passed to her final reward at her home in this city Monday at about 4:15 P.M. She had been in a precarious condition for many days and the end was not unexpected.
Sarah E. Mount, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Mount was born in Sevier County, East Tenn. , September 12, 1842. She was one of a family of 12 children. She was married to A. J. McKnight, October 6th, 1864. To this union 9 children were born. Viz: John H. , Margaret Elizabeth Davis, Samuel H. , J. Thomas, Martha A. Carman, Geo. A. , William 0., Daisy M. ,Sarah Frances L. Phillips. Martha A., Geo. A., William O. and Daisy M., have preceded her in death. She also leaves 12 grand children and 5 great grand children. She was a sister of H. Mount of this city.
She came to Missouri with her husband from Jefferson Co. , Tenn. , in 1871. With the exception of a brief residence in Ray County, Mo. , they have lived in Caldwell Co. all the time. She died at her home in Braymer, Monday afternoon May 14th at the advanced age of 80 years 8 months and 2 days. She united with the Methodist Church in childhood and lived a faithful and consistent Christian life thruout the years. She was loved and highly respected by all who knew her. She was a loving and helpful wife a kind and indulgent mother a royal and accommodating neighbor. She will be greatly missed in the home where her sacrificing spirit has predominated for so many years. With her "The battle's fought, the victory is won, and she is crowned at last."
The funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock
