Custer Co

Adam McKnight, aged 51 yrs, a resident of Anselmo, Custer Co, NE. That while a member of the organization in the line of his duty at Washington, District of Columbia on or about the spring of 1862, he contracted measles from exposure affecting his left side and back. Eyes were injured in front of Petersburg, VA in Feb 1865.


June 22, 1889

Respectfully returned to the Commissioner of Pensions. Adam McNight, a Sergt of Gompany F-4, Regiment Penna Cavy Volunteers, was enrolled on the 1 day of Sept 1861, at Lebanon for 3 years and is reported on roll Sept & Oct 1861 present, and same report to February 29, 1864. Reenlisted as a Veteran Vol, Jan 1, 1864 and so borne to February 28, 1865. Name also borne as Adam McKnight. Discharged to date May 24, 1865 for promotion to 2nd Lieut. Same company and Regiment.

Adam McKnight was mustered out with Company July 1, 1866 at Lynchburg, VA. Company was finally paid and disbanded July 6, 1865 at Pittsburg, PA.

Declaration for pension Act of February 6, 1907

State of South Dakota, Custer Co

On this 8th day of September, 1908, personally appeared before me Adam McKnight declares that he is 70 years of age, and a resident of Near Custer, Co of Custer, State of South Dakota, and he enrolled at Lebanon, Penna, under the name of Adam McKnight on the 20th day of April, 1861 as a private in Co G 5th Penna Inftry, Discharged July 24, 1861. Enrolled as Private Co F 4th Penna Cavalry, Harrisburg Sept 1861.

That his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height, 5 ft, 7 ½ in; light complexion; blue eyes, light hair, his occupation was miller, that he was born June 28, 1838, at Dauphin Co, Penna. That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows: Lebanon, Penna till April 5, 1878. Hopeston, Ill 1878 to 1884. Broken Bow, Nebraska. Custer Co, So Dak 1894 to present time Sept 8, 1908.
