We use the Onalaska OmniCenter for indoor games and most
practices, but occasionally use other local indoor rinks for practices. This
spacious facility is easy to find (just off US35, about 4 miles north of I-90,
or a mile west of the Onalaska Menards) and has lots of parking. Click their
logo for facility details, or click here here for
directions and map.
Spectators should be prepared to sit in the arena (at 40-50 degrees); there
isn't a short-shirt-sleeves viewing area. A well-stocked Concession stand is
open for games; vending machines are available otherwise. No mechanical or
electronic noise-makers are allowed. Coaches may swap a set of personal keys
for a locker room key at the OmniCenter Office. The coach is also
responsible for cleaning up the locker room and turning out the lights when
done (including strips of hockey tape that seem to fly everywhere) prior to
getting their keys returned. The OmniCenter is adjacent to VanRiper
park, with lighted sledding hill and skating 'pond' in winter or soccer,
volleyball and softball fields after the snow's gone. Year-round kiddie play
area.
OmniCenter Rink2, Indoors
We've improved our old outdoor rink immediately behind the
OmniCenter. It's artificial and enclosed. Skaters love the hard ice, but
spectators will think it's cold. Same directions as above. NOTE:
there are 2 indoor locker rooms and 2 trailer locker rooms for this rink.
Coaches may swap a set of keys for a locker room key.
Our third rink is primarily for practice, but is lighted and
can be used for games (weather permitting). It's located in the City Park east
of East 2nd Ave, between Roberts St. on north and Wall St. on south (Roberts
loops around to become Wall within the park). From Wisc 35 north, take Main
("DH") north 4 streets to Wall; turn right (east) and go 2 more blocks. Using
www.mapquest.com, search Holmen, WI for
East 2nd and Wall St. As this is being typed, we're preparing a
trailer to be placed next to this rink for skaters to use for changing and
warming up. There are no spectator comforts, just lean on the boards and cheer
your team on! {Hey, Mister, please toss back that puck! <grin>}
Other Facilities
Due to our using 100% of the available ice time
at the OmniCenter, we also regularly practice at these indoor facilities too...
