Marshal Henry Culver
Officer Culver was shot and killed by two men who had just stolen a gun from a hardware store.
Marshal George Leonard
Marshal Leonard was shot and killed at the Cameron Depot while questioning two men about a burglary that had occurred the previous night.

Corporal HENRY "HANK" BRUNS
Corporal Bruns was killed when the vehicle he was riding in lost control on ice and hit a bridge railing.
Sergeant ROBERT "BOB" KIMBERLING
June 5, 1956 - October 6, 1999

Sergeant Kimberling was shot and killed on October 6, 1999 during a traffic stop on I-29 near St. Joseph. The violator that Sergeant Kimberling had stopped had driven off from a local truck stop without paying for $24.69 worth of gasoline. The violator, Jason Friske, had been entered into NCIC as a missing person and suicidal threat. This information was entered one minute prior to Sergeant Kimberling's car stop, and the information had not been uploaded and was unavailable to communications officers.
Friske shot Sergeant Kimberling five times with a .357 handgun. Several of the bullets were repelled by Sergeant Kimberling's vest. The fatal bullet struck a portion of his vest and penetrated the chest cavity, piercing the aorta. Sergeant Kimberling returned fire striking Friske two times. Friske then turned the gun on himself.
Sergeant Kimberling was the 20th Missouri State Highway Patrol Officer to die in the line of duty since 1931. He was and always will be a dear friend to our department!
Brookfield Police Department
Police Officer JOHN BRUMMITT
September 14, 1954 - July 16, 1999
Officer Brummit was on routine patrol, on April 14, 1998, when his squad car was struck broadside by another vehicle. Brummit was seriously injured in the accident and never regained consciousness.
Grundy County Sheriff's Department
Sheriff Deputy MARK GRIFFIN
1958 - January 30, 1981
Deputy Griffin was shot with a high powered rifle as he entered a residence on a domestic dispute. The suspect was later arrested.
St. Joseph Police Department
Police Officer JOHN DUTY
1936 - September 15, 1991
Officer Duty was a motor cycle officer and was struck by a motor vehicle during a traffic stop.
Police Officer BRADLEY ARN
1971 - November 10, 1998

Officer Arn was shot and killed as he was responding on a man walking down the street firing an automatic assault rifle. Officer Arn was the first officer on the scene and was shot once in the head while he was still in his squad car. The suspect continued on his shooting rampage before being shot by other St. Joseph officers.
Several by-standers and persons driving by were also hit with gunfire during this incident.
The other St. Joseph officers involved in this incident were honored as Top Cops in 1999 in Washington D.C.
Randolph County Sheriff's Department
Sheriff Deputy Jason Acton
1964 - June 22, 2000
Jail Supervisor Leon Egley
1967 - June 22, 2000
Deputy Acton and Jail Supervisor Leon Egley were shot and killed with a .22 caliber handgun during a botched jail break. The suspects, Michael Tisius (19) and Tracie Ann Bulington (27), were attempting to break Bulington's boyfriend, Roy Vance (27), out of jail. At approximately 12:45 a.m., the suspects rang the night buzzer and obtained access to the jail. Tisius opened fire on Acton and Egley. Acton and Egley died of gunshot wounds to the head. Tisius and Bulington were arrested in Kansas on 06-22-00.
