Our criminal investigation division is led by Criminal Investigations Supervisor Detective/Sergeant Rick Bashor, Detective Dan Miller, Detective Kevin Whitt, Detective Hal Riddle, Detective Doug Caster, Officer Ed Becker and Civilian Technical Resource Officer Stan Hendrix.
Our detectives are trained and certified as Crime Scene Investigators by the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department Forensic Crime Laboratory and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Evidence Technicians by the Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, AL. They are also trained in death/homicide investigation, fire investigation, blood spatter examination and recovery, forensic evidence collection, evidence/property management, 35 millimeter and digital photography, computer voice stress analysis, statement analysis, violent crimes-criminal profiling, child abduction investigations and an array of other specialties that assist our community in solving minor to complex crimes.
Detective/Sergeant Rick Bashor has been with the Cameron Police Department for 11 years and in law enforcement for 15 years. Rick specializes in death/homicide investigations, blood spatter interpretation, interview and interogation, hostage negotiations, Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA), violent crime-criminal profiling, statement analysis, property/evidence room management and the management of complex criminal investigations. Rick has testified at the local and state levels as an expert witness.
Detective Miller has been with the Cameron Police Department for 3 years and in law enforcement for 7 years. Dan specializes in death/homicide investigations, interview and interrogation, identity theft investigations, computer crimes, fraud/forgery investigations, sexual assaults, child abduction incidents and violent crime-criminal profiling. Dan has testified at the local, state and federal levels as an expert witness.
Detective Whitt has been with the Cameron Police Department for 7 years and in law enforcement for 10 years. Kevin specializes in death/homicide investigation, interview and interrogation, computer crimes and child abduction incidents. Kevin has testified as an expert witness at the local and state level.
Detective Hal Riddle is the retired Chief of the Cameron Police Department. Detective Riddle was Chief of the Cameron Police Department for 26 years. During his tenure as Chief, Detective Riddle led investigations several death/homicide investigations. He also specializes in crime scene reconstruction, crime scene investigation, blood spatter interpretation, forensic evidence examination and violent crime-criminal profiling. Detective Riddle has testified in local, state and federal levels as an expert witness.
Detective Doug Caster is a full time Detective/Sergeant with the Jackson County, Missouri Sheriff's Department. He has been in law enforcement for 28 years. Prior to his law enforcement career, Doug was a full time firefighter with the Claycomo, Missouri Fire Department and a volunteer with the Raytown, Missouri Fire Department. Doug specializes in fire investigation, post blast investigaitons, death/homicide investigation, crime scene investigation and interview and interrogation and hostage negotiations. Doug has testified at the local and state level as an expert witness.
Officer Ed Becker is the City of Cameron Information Technology Specialist. He spent over 30 years in law enforcement, retiring in February 2006 from the Cameron Police Department. Reserve Officer Becker provides computer forensic examinations, data recovery and computer forensic crime support to our criminal investigation unit.
Civilian Technical Resource Specialist Stan Hendrix provides audio and video support to the police department. Stan enhances still pictures and video from any business surveillance system. He also video tapes all department training for later crituque. Stan is most instrumental in missing person cases. He provides a mobile printing unit in his sport utility vehicle and responds directly to the scene of missing person cases, allowing him to develop missing person flyers from family photographs. Stan also has the ability to disseminate the missing person flyers over the internet via a cellular telephone connection. Stan provides this service to the police department on a volntary basis.
Our detectives are also active in the Northwest Missouri Major Case Squad (NOMIS) and are on the Initial Response Team that responds to major crime scenes in northwest Missouri. Our detectives and the other IRT team members were instrumental in solving the high profile Bobbi Jo Stinnett homicide and the kidnapping of her unborn child, Victori Jo Stinnett, in Skidmore, MO in December 2004. Several members of this team were recognized in Washington D.C. for their efforts in solving this case by President George W. Bush.They have also been involved in several other homicide investigations the last few years in Northwest Missouri.
We currently have three officer's assigned to the ATF NITRO Task Force. This task force is a federal task force that focuses on gun, drug and violent crime investigations in Northwest Missouri. See the link on the index page for more information on the task force and it's operation.
