Baby Shower Decorations
|
There are so many baby shower decorations out there, how do you decide what you want. You don't want to go over board and have it look tacky. All of those cute little doo dads do start to get quite costly,so you must becareful. Honestly you can have a beautiful shower with out buying one single "baby shower" decoration. I always try to buy things that can be used for other get togethers, or parties. Here are a few suggestions on how to decorate your party place. And remember less really is more!
Centerpieces
- Recieving Blanket Babies
You will need a waffle knit type receiving blanket for each baby you are making. Roll up short sides evenly to middle.Measure down about 15" and place 2,3 pieces of wadded up tissue paper on rolls. Flip top over tissue to form head. It will look like a ghost. Secure with rubber band. turn around so rolls are in back. Slowly and carefully unroll short sides and bring forward to form arms. Fasten arms with safety pin or a few quick stitches. Embroider "line mouth" and "Sleeping eyes" for face. Put bonnet on head, size 11. There you have it. Sometimes if the baby won't sit up you can use a small baby bottle or soda can under the blanket to steady it. They are simple, cute and a wonderful centerpiece gift.
- Washcloth Roses
It takes some patience, but really worth it. You use about 3 baby washclothes folded in half and wrap them to make a rose shape, place them on a green slender dowel and secure it on with a ribbon. You may add some leaves too if you desire. Make up a few of these and place them in a vase, then the mother can keep them after the shower to use.

Hanging Decorations
- Clothes Line
This idea can be made in tons of different ways. One idea is to take baby clothes and hang them on a clothesline or sturdy rope. This can be hung as a garland on a wall or if the clothes are small enough even over a tall doorway. The clothes can be hung on the rope with safety pins or clothes pins. These clothes may be given to the mom-to-be after the party. (This idea may also be part of the party activity. Ask each guest to bring an item of clothes [gently used or new]. Then hang them as each guest comes.)
- Paper Dolls
Remeber these? Well this craft we made as kids would make great garlands for the party. If you know the gender of the baby then you could make dolls of only that gender. Or you could make both if it is undetermined yet. To make paper dolls you fold a long piece of paper acordian (/\/\/\/\/\) style (size really depends on what size you are looking for.) Draw one doll on the front of the little paper booklet, be sure you connect some parts on both sides so they don't fall apart after you cut them. (You can use a cookie cutter as a guide if you don't feel sure of yourself. Gingerbread men cutters work well.) Cut around the outline (being sure not to completely cut off the edges.) Then open TADA!! Tape these toegether and string on staircases, door frames, along table edges window sills, you get the idea. Embelish as much or as little as you want.
Along these same lines you can make any type of "paper doll" I've done ducks, flowers, stars, etc... Cookie cutters and coloring books are good guides. Have fun!
