Types of Baby Showers
Types of Baby Showers

No matter what type of shower you pick there is a lot of planning involved in showers. Some people are planning couple showers, others an after-baby has arrived party, while others still plan a simple intimate luncheon, hopefully here you'll be able to find some ideas to help get you on your way!
General Themes
From my experience if you plan around at least a basic theme it makes the planning much easier. Picking a color theme (blue, white and pink are very popular,) an item theme (bibs, rattles, diapers, bottles, balls, trucks, etc...), or a nursery theme (storks, noah's ark, bears, sports, ducks, etc...) are very easy and most things can be found in your local discount store. You can simply stay in these themes for the name tags, invitations, decorations, cake, food, and so on.
Specific Themes
- Around The Clock Party-
A party for the things a mom/dad needs at different times of the day. 2:00am (bottle set, rocking chair) 6:00am (changing table, baby bathtub, car seat) 8:00am (toys, books) night time (baby monitor, crib, bottle warmer,) you get the general idea.
- Baby's Firsts-
A party pre-celebrating the major milestones in baby's life. First steps, (baby shoes) first solids, (dish set) first smile, (photography gift-certificates) first babysitter, (gift certificate for mom and dad to go to a movie or dinner) etc...
- Pamper Mom Party-
A party for the mom. After 8-9 months of carrying this baby, mom's body can get a bit tired. Take her out to a spa, get a manicure, or anything to let her get pampered.
- Educational Party-
Have each guest bring an educational gift, classical music cds, or children's book for the baby. It's never too early to start reading to the baby.
- Potluck Party-
Every person brings 2 dishes of the same item. One to share with the rest of the party and the other to be frozen for the mom-to-be to easily serve after the baby is born. Also a good idea to bring recipe cards filled out with the recipes to share for the mom and the rest of the guests too. (The hostess could give the mom a card box to keep the recipes in.)
- Baby Safety Shower-
This is a great and important shower, gifts can include all the items needed to keep baby safe. Some examples are: outlet covers, car seat, tub-faucet cover, cupboard locks, non-skid socks/booties/sleepers, shopping cart strap, child "leash", bonnets/hats that cover ears and protect from the sun, insect repelants (deet-free) electronic ones are the best, night light, baby monitor, high chair, thermometer, first aid kit, poison control kit, safety gates, etc... anything that protects baby.
- Sugar And Spice-
If you know 100% that the baby is to be a girl, this can be a popular theme. Of course the colors will probably be pink, white, (or for a bit more contemporary a cinnamony pink color) Place cinnamon sticks, and other spices around to make a wonderful smell. You can follow this throughout the party.
- Rubber Duckie Party-
This is a fun party for either boy or girl, or if you don't know yet. There are so many things you can do, I can only name a few things. Obviously yellow would be a good theme color. You could give rubber duckie key chains as favors. They could also be used as napkin rings. Have a large glass bowl or galvanized tub in the center of the table filled with blue water. Floating candles and a rubber duckie or two floating in there for a lovely centerpiece.
