Tired of living in the city? Tired of the day-to-day hustle, crowds, nastiness and anxiety of living in the thick of things? Or do you just need a getaway home in the forest? This beautiful chalet log house for sale deep in the Olympic forest of Washington State was built in 2004.

This 3 bed, 2 bath chalet features Yada milled cedar logs, protected with PermaChink products for a long life and beautiful color. The great room has a ceiling that is nearly 30 feet high with whole-wall picture windows allowing the picturesque Olympic National Forest to enhance your pleasure. The footprint is about 1400 sq. ft, and the total area is approximately 2200 sq. ft. The almost 400 sq. ft. master bedroom has a vaulted ceiling, a huge walk-in closet, and opens to a loft overlooking the great room.

The garage has matching ship lap with the log appearance and is large enough to house 4 cars. We park two cars in the garage and still have enough room for a full shop, which features a 40-foot work bench.

A 10 by 12 storage shed houses the water supply pressure tank as well as our compressor, which is plumbed to the shed, garage and house. Out behind is a 10 by 20 wood shed which can easily hold 12 cords of wood. The large wood stove can heat the house so well that we rarely ever use the furnace.

The great room is huge. The ceiling is nearly 30 feet tall, the room itself spans 30 feet by about 30 feet. The wood-burning stove heats the whole house easily. Everywhere you look is either wood or window. There isn’t a single sheet of sheetrock in the whole house. Pergo on the floor, cedar logs on the walls, and spruce car-decking on the top held up by Douglas fir 4 by 10s. It’s magnificent! You can arrange it any way you want, we have it currently set up so that the living room is on the west side and the dining area is on the east. The entire north wall is a view to the mountains in the Olympic National Forest.

The open stairs climb up to a loft overlooking the great room as well as providing views out the north windows. Underneath the staircase is a hidden pantry for the kitchen area.

The first shot is of the wood stove from the kitchen, and the second shot is the living room and dining area shot from the stairs.

It does snow here once in a while, and you can’t ask for a more beautiful scene than this log chalet in the winter. Our deck is 12 feet by nearly 50 feet, and the porch is 8 feet by over 50 feet. Summer sunsets are remarkable while relaxing, listening to the wildlife and experiencing the peace. Here are some shots of the snow fall in early January 2008.

The house sits on approximately 4 acres of property. The front yard is about 3 acres of lawn with conifers, a perfect playground for anybody of any age. You can either mow it neatly or let it run wild, both are beautiful. Remarkable seclusion, silence, peace and quiet, dark night skies, yet a trip to Forks is less than 20 minutes. Critters that wander through include deer, elk (usually 50 at a time), coyotes, rabbits, eagles, great blue herons, western goldfinches, ravens, grouse and many others.

The trees include Sitka spruce, Douglas fir, red alder, western hemlock, red cedar, and our lawn area has rhododendrons, foxgloves and other regional flowers. Even though it seems that we are secluded and remote, we’re on DSL. We have underground power and an above ground transformer.

Adjacent to this property is a separate 32.42 acres also available. We aren’t planning on selling it but a negotiation could be arranged, and your property would increase to an amazing 36 ½ acres. The larger property has trails, a large meadow, a creek with salmon, and the potential for a future timber harvest for those who are investment minded.

The house is located only a 19-mile drive from the prettiest lake in the whole world, Lake Crescent, which lies in the Olympic National Park. Also nearby in the national park are Sol Duc Falls, Marymere Falls, the Hoh Rain Forest, Rialto Beach, and a little further away is Hurricane Ridge.

About an hour away is the city of Port Angeles, which has the Coho ferry taking you to the Canadian city of Victoria. Fifteen minutes beyond Port Angeles is the retirement community of Sequim, pronounced “skwim”. This rain shadow town only gets about 12 to 20 inches of rain a year. The diversity in weather is amazing as well as the diversity in scenery. Our place is in a dense forest, it snows a few times a year, while an hour away in Port Angeles it rarely snows or rains. The house was started July 2003 and the final inspection was in September 2004.
