"MONTANA

IN HER HEIGHT AND BREADTH

ENORMITY AND DEPTH

AND SHEER SPLENDOR

FULL OF ATTITUDE AND ARROGANCE

GLANCES AT MAN WITH AMUSED SILENCE

THE FORCE OF HER NATURE HUMBLES US"

A QUICK MONTANA HISTORY LESSON

Montana is one of the largest states in the USA.  It includes 147,138 square miles (96,168,320 acres) of land and water. It is the fourth largest state in the nation after Alaska, Texas and California. The word "Montana" means mountain in Latin and Spanish (which language the state got its name from depends on whose story you believe). Mountainous is perhaps the most apt description of the area especially since the western one-third of the state is spliced by the mighty Continental Divide. The highest point in the state is Granite Peak, which towers some 12,799 feet above sea level. The lofty peak is located in south central Park County. The state's lowest point can be found on the Kootenai River, some 1,820 above sea level, at the Montana-Idaho line. The census figures, released July 1, 2005, put Montana's population at 935,670. That's about six people per square mile, ranking Montana, the "Treasure State," as 44th in population. Montana's principal industries are agriculture, timber, mining, tourism and oil and gas production. Montana became a territory of the United States on May 26, 1864 and was admitted to the union as the 41st state on Nov. 8, 1889."

MONTANA IS MY HOME. I LIVE IN THE NORTHWEST PART OF THE STATE WITH A WONDERFUL VIEW OF FLATHEAD LAKE THAT IS THE LARGEST NATURAL FRESHWATER LAKE IN THE U.S., WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI. ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LAKE (I FACE EAST), IS THE MAIN SPINE OF THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS AND THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE . MY HOME IS ON THE WEST SHORE OF THE LAKE BETWEEN THE TOWNS OF ROLLINS AND LAKESIDE. I'M ABOUT AN HOURS DRIVE FROM GLACIER NATIONAL PARK.

I TOOK ALL MY PHOTOS FROM MY HOME OR IN GLACIER NATIONAL PARK.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

All the good jobs start before I get up, so I have no job title. My primary responsibility is to worry about world events that I have absolutely no control over (or for that matter, any real insight into). I have endless amounts of other things to do since I have spent much of my time creating this web page!  My fun stuff, when I can do it, consists of:

Collecting and shooting firearms

Woodworking

Surfing the web and otherwise screwing up my computer

Traveling

Exploring back roads that haven't yet been closed by the government.

Photography

Astronomy

Boating

and, of course:
