A
traditional
Bee- Hive type oven ,
with a chimney and cast iron door. The fire is built in the dome shaped
oven chamber and once hot enough the coals are raked out and the baking
begins. Wood is stored below the oven. This oven was the wish of a 70
yr. old woman and we received many grateful thanks for listening to her
wishes. (Shaw Island) |

FIRE.
Our ovens are built to expand and contract and sustain high temperatures.
Masonry ovens are fired hot and fast. They retain their heat for a long
period. Baking in one is a learned art and only requires the love of exceptionally
good food. |

Granite
fieldstone,
originally a stone wall in this location, was used for construction of this
outdoor oven and surrounds. This oven was an installation (Pre-Fab unit
by EarthStone Wood Fire Ovens, Los Angeles,CA.). The design was by
Berger Partnership of Seattle. Slate counters, wood storage, tool storage
and a propane grill make this a useful outdoor kitchen. |
We
designed this
fire circle
to blend into the existing meadow of tall grasses. The small roofed structure
is a low domed bake oven without a chimney. There is a custom iron door
which is used as a damper. The fire ring and oven are made of refractory
materials and covered with Bluestone fieldstone. The large boulders in
the circle are local granite, and the ground is covered with crushed oyster
shells. The owners call this their shell midden. (Shaw Island) |

The
fire god watches over the pizza.
This is a viewing window into a commercial oven.
The stone is local Basalt with Granite Quoins.
The fire god is an original casting. |
An
outdoor barbeque
with a chimney off the deck solved the clients problem of not
being able to do one of their favorite activities when there is a county
burn ban. The chimney makes it possible to burn. The firebox is large
enough to build an enjoyable warming fire for evening gatherings as well.
We used fieldstone and slate for the roof. ( Shaw Island) |
